Pickthall: And when your Lord proclaimed: If ye give thanks, I will give you more; but if ye are thankless, lo! My punishment is dire.
Yusuf Ali: And remember! your Lord caused to be declared (publicly): "If ye are grateful, I will add more (favours) unto you; But if ye show ingratitude, truly My punishment is terrible indeed."
Shakir: And when your Lord made it known: If you are grateful, I would certainly give to you more, and if you are ungrateful, My chastisement is truly severe.
Muhammad Sarwar: "Remember when your Lord said to you, 'If you give thanks, I shall give you greater (favors), but if you deny the Truth, know that My retribution is severe ".
Mohsin Khan: And (remember) when your Lord proclaimed: "If you give thanks (by accepting Faith and worshipping none but Allah), I will give you more (of My Blessings), but if you are thankless (i.e. disbelievers), verily! My Punishment is indeed severe."

A Study In Renewal
The Omaha World-Herald and the local papers reported that Emanuel who is a Democrat had closed Chicago schools in poor neighborhoods and incurred the wrath of the citizens.
Much the same occurred in Detroit.
The June 2 issue of the New York Times reported a different version.
It reported in detail how Emanuel was working with many different groups to rebuild neighborhoods and how individuals, led by concerned citizens were rebuilding neighborhoods.
As industry failed and the steel mills and auto plants and other heavy industry left, the white population also fled, leaving vast numbers of deserted houses and buildings.
The homeless moved in, but were forced out until some persons saw that the homeless actually could be used to rebuild the city.
They got permission to allow the homeless to “squat” in the houses and if the homeless could fix up the houses and pay taxes they could end up owning the house.
In that way the cities built up their tax bases while ending blight and poverty.
Republicans and conservatives didn’t lift a finger to help, either physically or with money.
They don’t deserve any credit, but will definitely claim all of the credit.

States’ Rights Prevail, But Little Else
The Lincoln Journal-Star reported that the Republicans have succeeded in splitting the U.S. into “Red” and “Blue” factions.
The “Red” states will be instituting tariffs and tolls on all roads and farmers won’t be able to get their produce to market in any condition.
People will have to pay tolls to cross state lines and to get into and out cities and towns; and across cities and towns.
Businesses will be charged tariffs by every state.
Tariffs are still present in college tuitions.
Out of state persons have to pay extra for their education.
That fact is really a left over from the days when states “did their own thing”, and didn’t concern themselves about anyone else.
Education will be limited to rich males.
Law enforcement will be as weak as in the 1920s and 1930s when Bonnie and Clyde roamed freely.
The Feds didn’t intervene until Bonnie and Clyde had left dead bodies all over the mid-West from Texas to Iowa and from New Mexico to Louisiana and probably other parts unknown.
The History Channel had a substantial series on Bonnie and Clyde a few years ago.
During the early 20th century the Old West outlaws were changing to modern modes of robbery by using cars and the newly developed machine guns.
Jesse James retired possibly in the 1890s and is thought to have possibly lived into the 1920s.
Butch Cassidy retired to Montana after a stint in South America and is thought to have possibly lived into the 1950s.
Law enforcement laws had to be passed and implemented on a more unified national basis.
The FBI was set up in the 1930s, but never became a potent law enforcement agency.
There was no unified military system until Eisenhower became President and had the national interstate highway system built.
All of that took tax money which Republicans and conservatives refuse to pay and which they cry about all the time.
In the Revolutionary War days, the colonies weren’t united.
If the British were threatening one town, the others would say that they weren’t threatened and it wasn’t their problem.
It took a few determined individuals to make everybody pull together and they had a nearly impossible situation to handle.
The U.S. survived by the “grace of God” or dumb luck; take your choice.
Is that the way people really want to have the situation be now.
BLOOMBERG SAID TO BE INDEPENDENT
Expanding Recycling Program
In the news, Bloomberg, the Mayor of NYC is said to be promoting the recycling of food scraps.
Apparently the effort is meant for composting of food scraps, but a small, edible fraction might be salvaged for the poor.
I thought Bloomberg was a Republican, but the news article said he was an Independent.
If he is Independent, other Republicans should come out of their Republican shell and really work to make this nation function as the founders intended.

Over-ruled Arizona Election Law
The U.S. Supreme Court overturned the Arizona election law which had required people to show an ID before being able to vote.
Amazingly conservative Scalia voted against Arizona.
That Arizona law was unconstitutional anyway.
There may still be hope for the U.S.

A reader reported a tornado had struck near St. Louis, Missouri during the recent storm period, but no damage was reported.
Tornados apparently saturated the nation in the past few weeks.

Star is so heartbroken by her daddy officially abandoning her completely all so that he can make more babies or shall I say he wants to make a white one now. Throughout this whole entire time he's been telling me he loves me we were even going to make ticket arrangements 2 fridays ago but then suddenly & unexpectedly when his house got raided and was tooken to jail, his mom bailed him out with the money he planned on buying our tickets with that same day...a thousand 500 was saved for mine & star's tickets to ohio and for to get our own place with when we would have gotten there. Long story short, him his mom & little sister were on a eviction notice to be out the house next day. He had no where to go. So he stayed with this white trash wanna be thug girl. That same day of the eviction, Me unaware Of ANYTHING I found myself calling his phone and my calls being foward, so it was real strange to me because like I said this whole time up until the eviction he's been telling me he loves me and before that he kept saying how he couldn't wait to see me & star and how he had so many things for us when we got there, including a wedding ring but suddenly Out Of Nowhere that same day he ignored all my calls & till this day I haven't spoken to him since, going on a week now. Then I started getting shocking text msgs him saying he didn't love me anymore when that's all he's been saying, then one after another he kept on saying things out of nowhere like how he wants to make another family, how he's in love, and how he doesn't ever want us to go to ohio no more, but remember what I had just said, this was Alllll news To Me because this entire time we were on a certain same level. These past days he's been messing with my head saying off & on he still loves me having me on a emotional rollercoaster. Ex-BBC man Hall was convicted of sexual abuse in 14 cases guilty. His youngest victim was just 9 years old! Hall had initially denied all allegations. But after more victims came forward, he finally admitted the allegations.
One of the victims is Caroline Jones, 12 years old at the time. In court, she described according to the newspaper "The Sun", in tears, as you pressed the prominent reporter's book "The Joy of Sex" in the hand. Then he asked the minors to read to him from the sex guide for adults. Jones: "It was very clear. I'm blushing, was totally dissolved. "

One of the victims described how Hall pushed her against the wall and thereby reached under her skirt. She said of the verdict: "I do not want him to die in prison, but that's like a slap in the face."

The vast majority of the 1,430 education programs that prepare the nation’s K-12 teachers are mediocre, according to a first-ever ranking that immediately touched off a firestorm.
Released Tuesday by the National Council on Teacher Quality, a Washington-based advocacy group, the rankings are part of a $5 million project funded by major U.S. foundations. Education secretaries in 21 states have endorsed the report, but some universities and education experts quickly assailed the review as incomplete and inaccurate.

Most D.C. schools let out for summer break this week, but debate over city education policies is just beginning.
Virginia teacher preparation programs get a C-minus
A first-of-its-kind review by the National Council On Teacher Quality includes an evaluation of programs at 29 Virginia universities.
Programs at Furman, Lipscomb, Ohio State and Vanderbilt universities received the only “four-star” ratings, while some programs, including at George Washington University, received no stars, eliciting a warning from the council for prospective students to avoid them.
While debate swirls about the validity of the ratings of individual schools, there is broad agreement among educators and public officials — from U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan to governors to unions — that the country is failing to adequately train the 200,000 people who become teachers each year.
“We don’t know how to prepare teachers,” said Arthur Levine, former president of Teachers College at Columbia University and author of a scathing critique of teacher preparation. “We can’t decide whether it’s a craft or a profession. Do you need a lot of education as you would in a profession, or do you need a little bit and then learn on the job, like a craft? I don’t know of any other profession that’s so uncertain about how to educate their professionals.”
Many education schools suffer from the same maladies, Levine said. “Admission standards are low, no connection between clinical work and academic work and some of the faculty haven’t been in a school for years,” he said.
The topic has gained urgency, with new research that shows teacher quality is the single most important factor inside a classroom that affects student learning. As baby boomers retire, classrooms increasingly have newly minted teachers at the helm.
Amy Grelck, 26, thought she was ready to teach after graduating from the education program at Illinois Wesleyan University in 2009. Then she stepped into a fifth-grade classroom.
“I was in shock, really,” said Grelck, whose undergraduate semester as a student teacher in an affluent school did not prepare her for her first full-time job teaching in a high-poverty classroom in Chambord, Ill. “I really loved the [university] program, while I was in it. But I really felt like I needed more of the realities of teaching. I had quite a bit of low-achieving, struggling students that I didn’t know what to do with.”
Grelck was faced with a litany of things she didn’t know: How to group kids by ability and teach them math simultaneously; how to manage behavioral problems; how to use data, such as her students’ test scores, to tweak her instruction.
She leaned heavily on more experienced teachers at her school who offered coaching and encouragement. “Nothing can really prepare you for that first year,” Grelck said. “But it definitely could have been a lot better if my program had been more focused on the realities that I was going to face.”

Manchester United target Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly been advised by those close to him not to pursue a transfer this summer, but instead wait until his contract with Real Madrid expires before moving on.
According to the Belfast Telegraph, Monaco are prepared to make Ronaldo the world's richest player with a bid before the transfer deadline, but the Real Madrid star is being told to resist the temptation to join the Ligue 2 champions.
Manchester United accept they will be unable to compete with Monaco in the transfer market - with the principality club planning a bid of £85 million for Ronaldo - but hope the Portugal captain sits tight until the end of his current deal.
Ronaldo is out of contract at the end of the 2014-15 and, although Florentino Perez is confident the 28-year-old will stay with Real Madrid, the player's advisors have suggested he waits 18 months to secure a free transfer to Manchester United.
Ronaldo would be free to begin negotiating with other clubs in the final six months of his deal, and Manchester United would reportedly be among the top contenders to sign him.
The former Old Trafford superstar is expected to rebuff any attempts by Monaco to secure his signature - despite the financial incentives - with Ronaldo reportedly unwilling to play outside the Champions League, even if for just one season.
Should he resist both Monaco and Real Madrid, Ronaldo will reportedly stand to receive a package in the region of €140 million should he return to Manchester United, with the Premier League club willing to offer a sizeable signing on fee.
The Premier League champions would save a significant sum on not paying a transfer fee for Ronaldo, and will reportedly offer the Portuguese €20 million-a-year plus 100 percent of his image rights.
Ronaldo's image rights are currently split 60-40 in his favour with Real Madrid, although Los Blancos may be willing to lose a further chunk were they able to guarantee the player would stay at the Santiago Bernabe

Why the LGBT vote isn’t so clear cut — in three charts

While LGBT Americans are mostly in lockstep when it comes to their views about government and politics, there are a few key differences between bisexuals, and gay men and lesbians, according to a new Pew Research Center survey.
In short, bisexuals lean more toward being political independents compared to gay men and lesbians, who identify more closely with the Democratic Party. The poll, released Thursday, was the first survey Pew conducted among LGBT adults.

While clear majorities of gay men and lesbians identify as Democrats, bisexuals are split. While 44 percent of bisexuals say they are Democrats, nearly the same amount (40 percent) say they are political independents. By comparison, only 21 percent of gay men and 28 percent of lesbians identify as independents.

And while gay men, lesbians and bisexuals all hold broadly favorable views of the Democratic Party and mostly unfavorable views of the Republican Party, it’s not as one-sided when it comes to the latter demographic. Compared to gay men and lesbians, a larger percentage of bisexuals hold an unfavorable view of the Democratic Party. The same is true when it comes to viewing the GOP favorably.

This is all especially noteworthy considering that a plurality of the LGBT population is bisexual, according to the survey.

In closing, it’s also worth noting that when it comes to voting, LGBT Americans participate at about the same rate as the public as a whole. About three-quarters of LGBT adults say they always or nearly always vote. So we’re talking about a segment of the population that is pretty active when it comes to politics.

The gays continue their attempt to foist their dictatorship on America. Look at how they tried to force a bakery to make a wedding cake for a gay wedding. Since when can they force a private business to do something the business owner finds morally objectionable and violates their faith? The gays are no better than a bunch of Nazis trying to force a Jewish-owned bakery to make a birthday cake for Hitler's birthday. Disgusting.

A bakery isn't a religious institution. You don't get to pick and choose which types of weddings you serve, just like the baker can't turn down a Jewish wedding, an atheist wedding, an interracial wedding, etc. That's not forcing anything on anyone, that's simply the law. Don't want to serve everyone? There's a simple solution: don't make wedding cakes. If you are gonna make wedding cakes, follow the law. It's really simple, so stop whining and get it through your head that gays ARE your equal and deserve to be treated like it.

More specifically, the public accommodations section of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. This Act employs the "equal protection" clause of the 14th Amendment and the 14th Amendment is directed at state behavior. States regulate businesses via licenses and other laws.

And, just in case Diamondback or others like him want to challenge the legality of the act, Heart of Atlanta Motel Inc. v. United States upheld the legality of it under the Commerce Clause. So did Katzenbach v. McClung. Washington v. Davis determined the conditions in which federal law can act to prevent acts of discrimination, those being a discriminatory purpose and a discriminatory impact (which is the case with the bakery). In Washington State (one of the bakery incidents) the law says "prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity or expression." In Colorado (another) " it is illegal to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity or expression in employment, housing, public accommodations, education and credit." In Maryland, where you had the whining trolley driver, state law protects against discrimination based on sexual orientation. I could keep going, but one thing these all have in common is all these laws pre-date Marriage equality in these states. All are also legal because of the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution.

diamondback is really struggling with his own sexuality. all this homophobia diatribe is nothing less than an attempt to deflect his own inner struggle. there have been studies about these people...all those preachers that go on and on about gay problems, and then get found out in motels with boy hookers or boarding planes with their little boy toy, or going to thailand to seek out male company. just come out already! you can do it! stop hiding behind your fear of accepting who you really are!

Interesting that a plurality of the LGBT community is bisexual. Goes back to the adage that they are confused about who they are and it could very well be a choice, at least 40% of the time, instead of how they are born. I believe it's a mental disorder and sin, but that's my personal view I will always believe.

Sorry, but the science says you're wrong on the mental disorder thing. As for your beliefs, as long as you keep them to your life and out of the laws of the country, feel free. Identifying as bisexual isn't confusion, nor does it prove that there is any choice. Bisexuals don't simply wake up in the morning and say "today I want men" or "today I want women." It simply means there are attracted to both sexes.

The numbers here suggest that 40 percent of those POLLED identify as bisexual, not that 40 percent of the actual LGBT population is bisexual. Given that, I'm not sure what this article is trying to prove, other than the LGBT community perhaps is more politically diverse than one might suspect.

As a bisexual, my displeasure with the Democratic Party comes with it (and its politicians) too easily selling out civil rights. (And for the record, I don't just mean same-sex marriage, which is but the low-hanging fruit on equal rights.)
So just a reality check if you think bisexuals are less pleased with Democrats because they want them to be more centrist -- plenty of us want them to be more progressive, and are political independents as a result.

It most likely WILL be for the states, but it SHOULDN'T be. A state should have the right to decide whether or not recognize legal marriages. It should have the right to decide what benefits and protections it attaches to marriage. It should have these rights because they are not delegated to the federal government (10th Amendment). However, upholding the Constitution IS delegated to the federal government and part of the Constitution s the guarantee that no citizen will be denied equal protection under law without due process or absent just cause (14th Amendment). Which means unless just cause can be provided, the federal government SHOULD be fulfilling its obligation to protect the Constitutionally guaranteed right of equal protection by a SCOTUS ruling that a state recognizing marriages for heterosexual couples but not homosexual couples is unconstitutional. They also SHOULD rule that whether a state currently recognizes same sex marriages or not, under the Full Faith and Credit clause, if a same sex couple gets married in a state where same sex marriage is the law, that marriage (a contractual arrangement under law) carries over state lines.
I say "should" because it's most likely that the Court will simply say on Prop 8 that because it violates California law (by taking away an existing right of a minority group), which doesn't violate federal laws, they will likely simply side with the lower court ruling on that one. As for the DOMA case, they're expected to make a very narrow ruling, simply striking down a single provision regarding the tax in question, rather than the entire law, even though by a simple word-for-word reading of the Constitution (the Supreme law of the land) it is unconstitutional.

If Texas is required to respect a marriage licence issued in New York, is New York required to respect a gun licence issued in Texas.
FYI, I am asking about your view of FF+C, not about the merits of either licensing policy.

Yes, New York does have to recognize a gun license from Texas. In fact, they do recognize the legal ownership of guns bought in Texas. New York carrying laws says you can't necessarily carry that gun in public, but the legal purchase, so long as it doesn't violate federal transport laws, is still legal ownership. Just like the benefits of that marriage in Texas may differ from the benefits in New York, even though that legal marriage license carries over. And while you can't buy that gun in New York, again, your ownership remains, so long as it doesn't violate gun running and transport laws regarding the carrying of guns over state lines (which the federal government can regulate, because of the Commerce clause) and so long as from the second you step over that line, you don't violate New York laws regarding concealed carry or possession of firearm in a public space.

THE FOLLOWING is a speech made by former South African President P.W. Botha to his Cabinet.
"Pretoria has been made by the White mind for the White man. We are not obliged even the least to try to prove to anybody and to the Blacks that we are superior people. We have demonstrated that to the Blacks in a thousand and one ways. The Republic of South Africa that we know of today has not been created by wishful thinking. We have created it at the expense of intelligence, sweat and blood. Were they Afrikaners who tried to eliminate the Australian Aborigines? Are they Afrikaners who discriminate against Blacks and call them Nigge*rs in the States? Were they Afrikaners who started the slave trade? Where is the Black man appreciated? England discriminates against its Black and their "Sus" law is out to discipline the Blacks. Canada, France, Russia, and Japan all play their discrimination too. Why in the hell then is so much noise made about us? Why are they biased against us? I am simply trying to prove to you all that there is nothing unusual we are doing that the so called civilized worlds are not doing. We are simply an honest people who have come out aloud with a clear philosophy of how we want to live our own White life.
We do not pretend like other Whites that we like Blacks. The fact that, Blacks look like human beings and act like human beings do not necessarily make them sensible human beings. Hedgehogs are not porcupines and lizards are not crocodiles simply because they look alike. If God wanted us to be equal to the Blacks, he would have created us all of a uniform colour and intellect. But he created us differently: Whites, Blacks, Yellow, Rulers and the ruled. Intellectually, we are superior to the Blacks; that has been proven beyond any reasonable doubt over the years. I believe that the Afrikaner is an honest, God fearing person, who has demonstrated practically the right way of being. Nevertheless, it is comforting to know that behind the scenes, Europe, America, Canada, Australia -and all others are behind us in spite of what they say. For diplomatic relations, we all know what language should be used and where. To prove my point, Comrades, does anyone of you know a White country without an investment or interest in South Africa? Who buys our gold? Who buys our diamonds? Who trades with us? Who is helping us develop other nuclear weapon? The very truth is that we are their people and they are our people. It's a big secret. The strength of our economy is backed by America, Britain, and Germany. It is our strong conviction, therefore, that the Black is the raw material for the White man. So Brothers and Sisters, let us join hands together to fight against this Black devil. I appeal to all Afrikaners to come out with any creative means of fighting this war. Surely God cannot forsake his own people whom we are. By now every one of us has seen it practically that the Blacks cannot rule themselves. Give them guns and they will kill each other. They are good in nothing else but making noise, dancing, marrying
many wives and indulging in sex. Let us all accept that the Black man is the symbol of poverty, mental inferiority, laziness and emotional incompetence. Isn't it plausible, therefore that the White man is created to rule the Black man? Come to think of what would happen one day if you woke up and on the throne sat a Kaff*ir! Can you imagine what would happen to our women? Does anyone of you believe that the Blacks can rule this country?
Hence, we have good reasons to let them all-the Mandelas-rot in prison, and I think we should be commended for having kept them alive in spite of what we have at hand with which to finish them off. I wish to announce a number of new strategies that should be put to use to destroy this Black bug. We should now make use of the chemical weapon. Priority number one, we should not by all means allow any more increases of the Black population lest we be choked very soon. I have exciting news that our scientists have come with an efficient stuff. I am sending out more researchers to the field to identify as many venues as possible where the chemical weapons could be employed to combat any further population increases. The hospital is a very strategic opening, for example and should be fully utilized. The food supply channel should be used. We have developed excellent slow killing poisons and fertility destroyers. Our only fear is in case such stuff came in to their hands as they are bound to start using it against us if you care to think of the many Blacks working for us in our houses.

It may be necessary too to set up a population boom industry by putting up centres where we employ and support fully White young men and women to produce children for the nation. We are also investigating the merit of uterus rentals as a possible means of speeding up the growth of our population through surrogate mothers.
For the time being, we should also engage a higher gear to make sure that Black men are separated from their women and fines imposed upon married wives who bear illegitimate children. I have a committee working on finding better methods of inciting Blacks against each other and encouraging murders among themselves. Murder cases among Blacks should bear very little punishment in order to encourage them.
My scientists have come up with a drug that could be smuggled into their brews to effect slow poisoning results and fertility destruction. Working through drinks and manufacturing of soft drinks geared to the Blacks, could promote the channels of reducing their population. Ours is not a war that we can use the atomic bomb to destroy the Blacks, so we must use our intelligence to affect this. The person-to-person encounter can be very effective.
As the records show that the Black man is dying to go to bed with the White woman, here is our unique opportunity. "Mets, SNY Look For Doubleheader Audience Boost With Ps Harvey, Wheeler Starting"
Mets fans have been waiting a long time for a starting pitching lineup like they will see today. Two young starters with “electric stuff” and dominating command pitching on the very same day, as part of a double-header against the vilified Atlanta Braves. Highly touting pitching prospect Zack Wheeler, and young superstar Matt Harvey will both take the mound today for the Mets against Atlanta. As a long-time, die-hard Mets fan (since 1990) I cannot remember such hype surrounding the starting pitching since the days of Bill Pulsifer and Jason Isringhousen. Those pitchers didn’t quite work out as great as the Mets had hoped, so there are certainly some Mets fans that are still a bit apprehensive about how the Wheeler-Harvey duo will turn out in the end.
That being said, Matt Harvey has been one of the sole bright spots for a Mets team this year that has been embarrassing to watch most of the time! Matt Harvey has been a true top-notch Ace for the Mets since joining the team late last season. And Wheeler, most baseball analysts say will give the Mets a second Ace at the top of their rotation. To be sure, the Mets have had very good starting pitching most of the year, but their hitting has been abominable, especially with runners in scoring position.
But the jolt that the Harvey/Wheeler double-header will bring today to Mets fans and baseball fans throughout the country, should at help the Mets get some better television ratings. Sports Net New York (SNY) the Mets’ own television network has seen its worst ratings this year from any of the previous 8 years of its existence. This is due in large part to the Mets being almost completely “irrelevant” earlier in the season than the Mets have been in a long time.
Most Mets fans believe the team is already out of contention for the playoffs, and at time the horrid Mets performance day after day, is tough to watch. So, this new duo of Wheeler and Harvey should help boost SNY’s ratings at least on the days they are pitching, and hopefully will have a carryover affect to the other games as well.
According to baseball analyst Ron Darling, who works as an announcer for SNY, and had been a star pitcher for the Mets back in the 1980s, Wheeler’s debut could not have come at a better time. Darling said of Wheeler (who is making his MLB debut today), "I think this team, fan base, organization, and maybe a little bit the announcers, need a jolt of excitement, and he provides that." No matter "what the young pitchers do over the next 3 1/2 months, it is unlikely to lift the Mets into playoff contention, (which) presents an ongoing challenge for SNY's announcers, who are trying to tell it like it is while trying to keep viewers interested." Darling added that the ‘SNY team’ "spoke last week about not over-talking through Wheeler's first start, letting the game breathe and giving fans a chance to 'watch and enjoy, or not enjoy, whatever the case may be'" (NEWSDAY, 6/18).
Bob Raissman, of the New York Daily News writes that the "emphasis on Wheeler’s first start puts the Mets in an unaccustomed spotlight" and "puts the organization in a precarious position." While it is "just one start, whatever result Wheeler produces will immediately be totally blown out of proportion." WFAN (the NY radio station that has been carrying Mets games on the radio for several decades) and the SNY broadcasters "should maintain a balance," as they "will be the first line of analysis" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 6/18).
One thing that I know for certain: This Mets fan is finally excited!!

Rape accused defends marriage to 13-yo

Riduan Masmud, the 40-year-old who shocked Malaysia after being charged with raping the minor and later declared that he had married her in the midst of the case, has opened up for the first time on why he decided to take the girl as his second wife.
The restaurant manager defended his action, saying it was a case of suka sama suka (mutual consent), adding that it was acceptable under Syariah law.
It could not be ascertained whether the girl met Riduan while she was at school or whether she had been working for him. She is from a very poor family.
As his rape case came up for mention at a Sessions Court yesterday, Riduan told reporters that he had known the girl for about six months and felt he had the right (to marry an underage girl).
"There are many cases of men marrying underage girls. I do not see why my case should be any different," said the father of four children, aged between two and 17. He declined to say if any of them is a girl.
Riduan was speaking to reporters outside the courtroom after Sessions Court Judge Ummu Khatom Abd Samad set July 1 to 4 to hear the case.
Judge Ummu Khatom gave the Attorney-General's Chambers until June 6 to make a decision on whether to proceed with the case.
Riduan was charged on Feb 28 with raping the girl inside a car parked by the roadside in Inanam near here at 10am on Feb 18.
On May 7, DPP Ahmad Nazmeen Zulkifli told the court he had no objection for the case to be withdrawn after the girl withdrew the rape report against the man April 18.
It is understood that it was the girl's aunt who lodged the police report after she found out about the "affair".
The courtroom was packed yesterday with concerned groups turning up in full force. Many women interest groups and NGOs turned up for the hearing yesterday, including Befrienders Kota Kinabalu president Siti Rubiah Abdul Samad, the wife of Foreign Minister Anifah Aman.
All eyes were on the girl who appeared briefly in court. She has a childlike face, wore some make up, and tied up her long hair in a pony tail. Thin and looking under-developed, she was dressed in a T-shirt and jeans.
Riduan said he would let his child-wife finish her studies first and "maybe later take up a cosmetic course with my first wife", adding that she was a make-up artist.
His wife also told the press that she had accepted the teenager to be her husband's second wife and promised to guide her through her studies.
However, Riduan stopped talking and moved away from the media when he was signalled by a lawyer not to talk.
The girl's father, who was also at the court, said he accepted his daughter's marriage to Riduan as they liked each other.
"It is best for her that they get married. What else can I do?" he added.
As the case came up for mention yesterday, DPP Chaw Siang Kong told the court that he needed time to review the case as it involved public interest.
Lawyers Mariati Robert and Mary Lee held watching briefs for Sabah Law Association and the Sabah Women Action Resource Group respectively.
Counsel Loretto J. Padua informed the court that the Syariah marriage certificates had been presented to the investigating officer and confirmed that the two were now married.
The court ordered that the man's 8,000 ringgit (US$2,600) bail be extended till June 6
