After Earth

Before I got in touch with you,
I used to stare at stars as they
were only my friends.
But after I met you,
I started believing that
stars do fall on Earth.

Middle and South America.
What a beautiful field for disciple making, this part of the world has become! During the past year, 1,613,268 home. Bible studies were being conducted in these lands, and 91,126 students progressed to water baptism.

As a result of witnessing near Lake Titicaca, high in the Andes in Bolivia, our brothers have had some very fine experiences. They found that when they introduced themselves as Jehovah’s Witnesses in a rural community called Atahuallpani, many of the people would say they were Jesus Christ’s Witnesses. When asked why they had taken that name, they answered by referring to Acts 1:8, Following a positive discussion of many questions in the presence of the group’s pastors, including the Scriptural basis for the name Jehovah’s Witnesses, the publishers invited the group to the Kingdom Hall in Carpa.

Several weeks later, three of the pastors from the group actually came to the Kingdom Hall. After the meeting, they spoke at length with the elders and invited them to their meeting place to explain more about our Bible teachings. The elders prepared a symposium on ‘Armageddon’. ‘Who Go To Heaven’, and ‘Paradise on Earth’. There were about 50 of their members in attendance.

After the talks, the chairman of their group spoke, informing all in attendance that they had been ‘misled and were practicing false religion’. After that meeting, the pastors and several others warmly embraced the brothers. Many Bible studies were started with members of the group. At this writing, 25 of them have become baptized Witnesses and 10 more are making good progress with their Bible studies. Imagine the joy of the group of sincere persons when they realized that at last they had found the accurate knowledge of God’s life-giving truth!

In the eastern part of El Salvador, the brothers planned a visit to the far reaches of their rural territory in order to preach the good news. After walking for several hours along narrow paths, up and down hills, the brothers reached a small settlement that they had not visited previously. In one house, an 11-year old blind boy came to the door and listened briefly. Than to the surprise of the brother, the boy stated, “I’m one of the Jehovah’s Witnesses”. Was he really?

How surprised the publisher was when the boy began to sing song number 32. “From House to House”! He knew it from beginning to end. He said he could also sing others, and he promptly started into number 105. “Hail Jehovah’s Firstborn”. Next he explained to the brother about the Paradise Earth. How had this boy, living in such a remote place, learned all of this?

From another little boy who could not even read. That boy’s mother worked for a Witness family in a large city, and the youngster had accompanied his mother to the meetings in the Kingdom Hall. When they went back to the little settlement where they lived, he related to his blind friend all that he had heard. The blind boy has now moved to a larger town, where the brothers are busy helping him to make further progress in the truth.

A special pioneer in northern Brazil writes that when they arrived in their assignment, they learned that there were four publishers who would walk six miles (10 km) to get to the meetings, since there was no bus service on weekends. The pioneers decided to hold meetings in the town where those publishers lived. The first Sunday there were 40 persons present.

For the second meeting, the number in the house was the same, but outside was the pastor of the Assembly of God church with 15 of his group. They were invited in, but they preferred to listen from outside. The pioneer relates, “At the end of the meeting, I went out to talk with them and answer their questions.

I told the pastor that I too had been a pastor like him. He asked, “Then how can you be one of Jehovah’s Witnesses now”? To answer his question, I invited him to our home, and he agreed. In a few weeks he and some of his group abandoned their church and began to study the Bible with us”.

For the first memorial celebration in that town, 140 persons showed up a half hour early. Unfortunately, no sound equipment was available. A Catholic lady suggested that she try to borrow the equipment from her church. When she asked the priest about it, he said: “Is it for Jehovah’s Witnesses”? She answered: “No, There are only eight Witnesses,

The sound system is needed for the more than 100 Catholics there”. That argument did not work. A Protestant lady made a similar suggestion, but the preacher said: “Not for Jehovah’s Witnesses”. The lady argued, “I and the rest of the members of the church contributed for it, and so we have a certain right to use it”. With that, he let them borrow it. Many new Bible studies were started following that Memorial. Everyone in town was talking about how Jehovah’s Witnesses really help isolated persons.

One afternoon, in the Metro subway train in Caracas, Venezuela, a Witness was seeking a way to preach to a woman beside her. The Witness began to talk about how human society is changing and how that demands that we also adapt.

The woman agreed but said, “That’s what I say to my husband, but he’s stupid.
He wants to raise our children in the old-fashioned way. He’s one of Jehovah’s Witnesses”.

The publisher decided not to identify himself as a Witness. Instead, she said: “The ones I know are excellent people. Tell me, is he a drunkard”? When the woman responded, “Oh, no!” our sister followed up with a whole lot of points: “So, is he a drug addict”? “For sure he’s a womanizer and always comes home late”. “Well, does he teach the children bad words”? “I know, You have to work and keep him while he sits at home”. To each, the reply was a firm “No”: often with comments on his fine qualities. So the Witness said: “Well, then, I don’t understand, What is wrong with him”?

The woman thought for a few moments and then said: “Well, it’s that he takes the children to those meetings of the hall for two hours. But I’ve told him not to take them there again”.

“What do they say in those meetings”? the Witness asked. And then; “When your children don’t go to these meetings, what do they do? Once again, the Witness tried to help the woman to reason. “Do you think it’s better for them to watch television, with all its violence, war, murder, and immoral soap operas, than to learn about God? I’ll tell you the truth”, the Witness continued, “there are many pretty women around, career women, after a husband,

They have to make do with men as they are, with all sorts of faults. They turn out to be drunkards, drug addicts, promiscuous, they give them AIDS, and other illnesses, and the women look miserable. What you’ve got is a saint; don’t you appreciate him? The truth is, I don’t understand you. If you don’t want him, I’ll have him! He’s the sort I’m looking for.

If someone like him said to me, “Let’s go to the Kingdom Hall”, I’d say: “Let’s go”, and if he said: ‘We have to take the children’, I’d be delighted, Appreciate what you have”. When the woman got off at her stop, she was smiling, and she thanked the Witness. We hope that she also followed the suggestion to find out what the meetings are all about.

The experience of a sister in Paraguay illustrates that it is wise to act with trust in Jehovah as we make plans to attend assemblies. The assembly was to be in the capital, 360 miles (580 km) away. Our sister had five young children, her husband had abandoned her some years before, and she had very little money. Nevertheless, she began saving what she could so that she would be able to attend with all her children.

Yet, when the day for departure came, she still did not have enough to pay for the transportation. What could she do? Since it was a small town and things are dealt with in a cordial manner, she, along with her five children, went to the bus terminal. She explained to the one caring for tickets that she and her children needed to travel to the capital but that she had only enough money for two tickets.

To her joy, the ticket clerk told her to board the bus with her family. Then, when collecting the money for the tickets after the trip had begun, he charged for only one ticket, her own. It was a first class bus, the most expensive one in their town. How grateful that family was not to miss out on the spiritual food at the circuit assembly!

"Some of you may have heard that the Disney corporation is responsible for at least one real, "live" Ghost Town.
Disney built the "Treasure Island" resort in Baker's Bay in the Bahamas. It didn't START as a ghost town! Disney's cruise ships would actually stop at the resort and leave tourists there to relax in luxury.

This is a FACT. Look it up.

Disney blew $30,000,000 on the place... yes, Thirty Million Dollars.

Then they abandoned it.

Disney blamed the shallow waters (too shallow for their ships to safely operate) and there was even blame cast on the workers, saying that since they were from the Bahamas, they were too lazy to work a regular schedule.

That's where the factual nature of their story ends. It wasn't because of sand, and it obviously wasn't because "foreigners are lazy". Both are convenient excuses.

No, I sincerely doubt those reasons were legitimate. Why don't I buy the official story?

Because of Mowgli's Palace.

Near the beachside city of Emerald Isle in North Carolina, Disney began construction of "Mowgli's Palace" in the late 1990s. The concept was a Jungle-themed resort with a large, you guessed it, PALACE in the center of the whole thing.

If you're unfamiliar with the character of Mowgli, then you might better remember the story "The Jungle Book". If you haven't seen it anywhere else, you'd know it as the Disney cartoon from decades past.

Mowgli is an abandoned child, in the jungle, essentially raised by animals and simultaneously threatened/pursued by other animals.

Mowgli's Palace was a controversial undertaking from the start. Disney bought up a ton of high-priced land for the project, and there was actually a scandal surrounding some of the purchases. The local Government claimed "eminent domain" on people's homes, then turned around and sold the properties to Disney. At one point a home that had just been constructed was immediately condemned with little to no explanation.

The land grabbed by the Government was supposedly for some fictional highway project. Knowing full well what was going on, people started calling it "Mickey Mouse Highway".

Then there was the concept art. A group of stuffed shirts from Disney Co. actually held a city meeting. They intended to sell everyone on how lucrative this project was going to be for everyone. When they showed the concept art, this gigantic Indian Palace... surrounded by JUNGLE... staffed with men and women in loincloths and tribal gear... well, suffice to say everyone flipped their shit.

We're talking about a large Indian Palace, Jungle, and Loincloths not only in the center of a relatively wealth area, but also a somewhat "xenophobic" area of the southern USA. It was a questionable mix at that point in history.

One member of the crowd tried to storm the stage, but he was quickly subdued by security after he managed to break one of the presentation boards over his knee.

Disney took that community and essentially broke it over its knee, as well. The houses were razed, the land was cleared, and there wasn't a damned thing anyone could do or say about it. Local TV and Newspapers were against the resort at the beginning, but some insane connection between Disney's media holdings and the local venues came into play and their opinions turned on a dime.

So anyway, Treasure Island, the Bahamas. Disney sunk those millions in and then split. The same thing happened with Mowgli's Palace.

Construction was complete. Visitors actually stayed at the resort. The surrounding communities were flooded with traffic and the usual annoyances associated with an influx of lost and irate tourists.

Then it all just stopped.

Disney shut it down and nobody knew what the Hell to think. But they were pretty happy about it. Disney's loss was pretty hilarious and wonderful to a large group of folks who didn't want this in the first place.

I honestly didn't give the place another thought since hearing it closed over a decade ago. I live maybe four hours from Emerald Isle, so really I only heard the rumblings and didn't experience any of it first-hand.

Then I read this article from someone who had explored the Treasure Island resort and posted a whole blog about all the crazy shit he found there. Stuff just... left behind. Things smashed, defaced, probably ruined by the disgruntled former employees who had lost their jobs.

Hell, the locals from all around probably had a hand in wrecking that place. People there felt just as angry about Treasure Island as folks here did about Mowgli's Palace.

Plus there were rumors that Disney had released their aquarium "stock" into the local waters when they closed... including sharks.

Who wouldn't want to take a few swings at some merchandise after that?

Well, what I'm getting at is that this blog about Treasure Island got me thinking. Even though many years had passed since its closing, I figured it might be cool to do some "Urban Exploration" at Mowgli's Palace. Take some photos, write about my experience, and probably see if there was anything I could take home as a memento.

I'm not going to say I wasted no time in getting there, because honestly it took me another year after I first found that Treasure Island article to get around to going up to Emerald Isle.

Over the course of that year, I did a lot of research on the Palace resort... or rather, I tried to.

Naturally, no official Disney site or resource made any mention of the place. That had been scrubbed clean.

Even odder, however, was that nobody before myself had apparently thought to blog about the place or even post a photo. None of the local TV or Newspaper sites had one word about the place, though that was to be expected since they had all swung Disney's way. They wouldn't be out there lauding their embarrassment, you know?

Recently, I learned that corporations can actually ask Google, for example, to remove links from search results... basically for no good reason. Looking back, it's probably not that nobody spoke of the resort, but rather their words were made inaccessible.

So in the end I could barely find the place. All I had to go on was an old-as-hell map I'd received in the mail back in the 90s. It was a promotional item sent out to people who had recently been to Disney world, and I guess since I had been there in the late 80s, that was "recent".

I didn't really intend to hang onto it. It just got shoved in with my books and comics from my childhood. I'd only remembered it months into my research, and even then it took me another few weeks to locate the storage bin my parents had shoved it all into.

But I DID find it. Locals were no help, as most were transplants who had moved to the beach in recent years... or old residents who just sneered at me and made rude gestures the second I managed to say "Where would I find Mowgli's---"

The drive took me through an inordinately long corridor of overgrowth. Tropical plants that had run rampant and overpopulated the area mixed with the native species of flora that actually BELONGED there and had tried to reclaim the land.

I was in awe when I reached the front gates of the resort. Tremendous, monolithic wooden gates whose supports to either side looked like they must've been cut from giant sequoias. The gate itself had been gouged in several places by woodpeckers and eaten away at the base by burrowing insects.

Hanging on the gate was a sheet of metal, some random scrap, with hand-painted letters scrawled in black. "ABANDONED BY DISNEY". Clearly the handiwork of some past local or an employee who wanted to make some small protest.

The gates were open enough to walk through, but not drive, so grabbing my digital camera and the map, whose flip-side showed a layout of the resort, I set off on foot.

The inner grounds of the place were just as overgrown as the entryway. Palm tree stood untended and ragged among piles of their own coconuts. Banana plants similarly stood in their own stinking, bug-riddled refuse. There was this sort of clash between order and chaos, as carefully planted rows of perennial flowers mixed with obnoxious tall weeds and stinking, blackened mushrooms.

All that remained of any outdoor structures were broken, rotting wood and various charred bits of unidentifiable material. What was most likely an information booth or an outdoor bar was now simply a pile of assorted debris chopped up by past vandalism and ravaged by weather.

The most interesting thing on the grounds was a statue of Baloo, the friendly bear from the Jungle Book, which stood in a sort of courtyard in front of the main building. He was frozen in a jovial wave toward no one, staring into empty space with a silly, toothy grin as bird shit covered whole swaths of his "fur" and vines ensnared his platform.

I approached the main building - the PALACE - only to find the outside of the building covered in graffiti where the original paint hadn't peeled and chipped away. The front doors weren't just open, they had been taken off their hinges and were stolen.

Above the front doors, or the gaping maw where they had been, someone had once again painted "ABANDONED BY DISNEY".

I wish I could tell you about all the awesome stuff I saw inside the Palace. Forgotten statues, abandoned cash registers, a full-fledged secret society of homeless bums... but no.

The inside of the building was so stark, so bare, that I actually think people had stolen the molding off the walls. Anything that was too big to steal... counters, desks, giant fake trees... they were all resting amid this empty echo chamber that amplified my every step like a slow rat-a-tat of a machine gun.

I checked the floorplan and headed to all the locations that might seem in any way interesting.

The kitchen was as you'd imagine... an industrial food prep area with all the appliances and space, no expenses spared. Every glass surface was broken, every door knocked off its hinges, every metal surface kicked and dented. The entire place smelled like very old piss.

The huge freezer, not even remotely cool now, had row upon row of empty shelf space. Hooks hung from the ceiling, probably for hanging cuts of meat, and as I stood inside for a moment, I noticed they were swinging.

Each hook swung in a random direction, but their movements were so slow and small that it was almost impossible to see. I figured it had been caused by my footsteps, so I stopped one from swinging by clutching it in my fist, then carefully letting go, but within seconds it started to swing once more.

The bathrooms were in much the same state as the rest of the place. Just like the Treasure Island resort, someone had methodically smashed each porcelain commode with coconuts and other implements. There was about a half inch of rancid, stinking stagnant water on the floor, so I didn't stay there very long.

What's odd is that the toilets and the sinks (and the bidets in the ladies' room, yes I went there) all dripped, leaked, or just ran freely. It seemed to me that they should've shut the water off long, LONG ago.

There were plenty of rooms in the resort, but naturally I didn't have time to look through them all. The few I did peer into were similarly wrecked, and I didn't expect to find anything there. I thought there was actually a television or radio in one room, as I really think I heard a quiet conversation coming out.

Though it was like a whisper, probably my own breathing echoing in the silence, or just another case of the sound of flowing water playing tricks on the mind, this is what it sounded like...

1: "I didn't believe it."

2: (short, unknown reply)

1: "I didn't know that. I didn't know that."

2: "Your father told you."

1: (unknown reply, or possibly just weeping.)

I know, I know, that sounds ridiculous. I'm just telling you what I experienced, why I thought there might've been something running in that room - or worse, some vagrants who had holed up there and probably would've knifed me.

At the front doors of the Palace again, I figured I hadn't found anything of note and had wasted the trip up.

As I looked out the door, I noticed something interesting in the courtyard that I had apparently missed. Something that would give me at least ONE thing to show for all my trouble, even if it was just a photograph.

There as a lifelike statue of a python, maybe eighty feet long, coiled up and "sunning" itself on a pedestal right in the center of the area. It was almost time for the sun to start setting, so the light fell onto the object in the PERFECT way for a photograph.

I approached the python and snapped a photo. Then I stood on my toes and snapped another. I moved closer again to get the detail of its face.

Slowly, casually, the python lifted its head, looked directly into my eyes, turned, and slithered off the pedestal, across the grass, and into the trees.

All eighty feet of it. Its head long disappeared into the woods before its tail even left the sunning spot.

Disney had released all their exotic animals onto the grounds. Right there on my floorplan map was the "Reptile House". I should have known. I'd read about the sharks at Treasure Isle, and I should have KNOWN they'd done this.

I was dumbfounded, just utterly stupefied. My mouth must've been hanging open for the longest time before I came back down to Earth and snapped it shut. I blinked a few times and backed away from where the snake had been, back toward the Palace.

Even though it was totally gone, I still wasn't taking any chances and backed my way into the building.

It took a few deep breaths and slaps to my own face to get myself right in the head again after that.

I looked for a place to sit down, as my legs were feeling a bit like jelly at this point. Of course, there WAS no place to sit down unless I wanted to recline in the broken glass and dead leaf carpet or haul myself up onto a desk of questionably reliability.

I had seen some stairs near the Palace's lobby and decided to go have a seat there until I felt better.

The staircase was far enough away from the front of the building to be relatively clean, save for a startling accumulation of dust. I pulled a wedge of metal off the wall, once again painted with the "ABANDONED BY DISNEY" motto I'd become accustomed to. I placed the wedge on the stairs and sat on it to keep at least somewhat clean.

The stairway led downward, below ground level. Using my camera flash as a sort of improvised flashlight, I could see that the stair case ended in a metal mesh door with a padlock. A sign on the door... a REAL sign... read "MASCOTS ONLY! THANK YOU!".

This perked up my spirits a little bit, for two reasons. One, a Mascots-Only area would have definitely had some interesting stuff back in the day... Two, the padlock was still in place. Nobody had gone down there. Not the vandals, not the looters, nobody.

This was the one place I could actually "explore" and perhaps find something interesting to photograph or wantonly steal. I had come to the Palace essentially agreeing with myself that it was okay to take anything I wanted because - hey - "abandoned".

It didn't take much to bust the lock. Well, actually that's wrong. It didn't take much to bust the metal plate on the wall that the padlock was hooked to. Time and decay had done most of the work for me, and I was able to bend the metal plate enough to pull the screws out of the wall - something nobody else had apparently thought of, or hadn't been able to do at the time.

The Mascots-Only area was a startling and very welcomed change from the rest of the building I'd seen. For one, every second or third fluorescent light overhead was illuminated, even though they flickered and faded randomly. Also, nothing had been stolen or broken, even if age and exposure were definately taking their toll.

Tables had note pads and pens, there were clocks... even a punch-in clock on the wall complete with filled-out time cards. Chairs were scattered around and there was even a small break room with an old, static-filled television and long rotted-out food and drink on the counters.

It was like one of those post-apocalypse movies where everything is left in the state of evacuation.

As I walked the maze-like sub-basement hallways of the Mascots-Only area, the sights just became more and more interesting. As I went further, desks and tables were knocked over, papers scattered and almost melded with the damp floor, and a large carpet of mold was slowly overtaking the real rotting crimson floor-covering.

Everything was just sort of "squishy". Anything wood disintegrated into mush when I applied even the least amount of force, and clothing items hanging on hooks in one of the rooms simply fell to moist threads if I tried to unhook them.

One thing that annoyed me was that the light was becoming more sparse and unreliable as I went further into the dank, suffocating depths of the place.

Eventually, I reached a black and yellow striped door with the words "CHARACTER PREP 1" stenciled on it.

The door wouldn't open at first. I figured this was probably where the costumes were kept, and I definately wanted a photograph of that twisted, stinking mess. Try as I might, whatever angle or trick I tried, the door wouldn't budge.

That is, until I gave up and started to walk away. That was when there was a slight popping sound and the door creaked open slowly.

Inside, the room was completely dark. Pitch black. I used the camera flash to look for a light switch in the wall buy the door, but there was nothing.

As I made my search, I was jarred out of my sense of excitement by a loud electrical buzz. Rows of lights overhead suddenly flashed to life, flickering and fading in and out like the rest I had passed.

It took a second for my eyes to adjust, and it seemed like the light was going to just keep getting brighter until all the bulbs exploded... but just when I thought it would reach that critical stage, the lights dimmed a bit and steadied.

The room was exactly as I had pictured it. Various Disney costumes hung on the walls, fully put together like strange cartoon cadavers hung from invisible nooses.

There was an entire rack of loincloths and "native" clothes on hangers toward the back.

What I found odd, and what I wanted to photograph right away, was a Mickey Mouse costume at the center of the room. Unlike the other costumes, it was lying on its back in the center of the floor like a murder victim. The fur on the costume was rotten and shedding, creating bare patches.

What was even odder, however, was the coloring of the costume. It was like a photo negative of the actual Mickey Mouse. Black where he should be white and white where he should be black. His normally red overalls were light blue.

The sight was off-putting enough that I actually put off photographing the thing until last.

I took a picture of the costumes hanging on the walls. Upward angles, downward angles, side shots to show an entire row of frozen, putrid cartoon faces, some with plastic eyes missing.

Then I decided to stage a shot. Just one of the bedraggled character heads on the slick, grimy floor.

I reached for the headpiece of a Donald Duck costume and carefully removed it so the thing wouldn't fall apart in my hands.

As I looked into the face of the wide-eyed, moldering head, a loud clattering sound made me jump with fright.

I looked down at my feet, and there between my shoes was a human skull. It had fallen out of the mascot head and shattered into pieces at me feet; only the empty face and lower jaw remained, staring up at me.

I dropped the Duck head immediately, as you'd expect, and moved for the door. As I stood in the doorway, I looked back to the skull on the floor.

I had to take a picture of it, you know? I HAD to, for any number of reasons that may seem silly, but only if you don't think it through.

I'd need proof of what happened, especially if Disney was going to somehow make this go away. I had no doubt in my mind, right from the start, that even if it was just gross negligence, Disney was RESPONSIBLE for this.

That's when Mickey, that photo negative, opposite-Mickey in the middle of the floor, started to get up.
Added by Sadofreedomist
First sitting up, then climbing to its feet, the Mickey Mouse costume... or whoever was inside of it, stood there at the center of the room, its fake face just starting directly at me as I mumbled "No..." over and over and over...
With shaking hands, a violently thrashing heart, and legs that had once again turned to jelly, I managed to lift the camera and aim it at the opposite creature now quietly sizing me up.

The digital camera's screen displayed only dead pixels in the shape of the thing. It was a perfect silhouette of the Mickey costume. As the camera moved in my unsteady hands, the dead pixels spread, marring the screen wherever Mickey's outline moved to.

Then the camera died. Went blank and quiet and... broken.

I raised my eyes once again to the Mickey Mouse costume.

"Hey," it said in a hushed, perverted, but perfectly executed Mickey Mouse voice, "Wanna see my head come off?"

It started to pull at its own head, working its clumsy, glove-clad fingers around its neck with clawing, impatient movements similar to a wounded man trying to pull himself free of a predator's jaws...

As it worked its digits into its neck... so much blood...

So much thick, chunky, yellow blood...

I turned away as I heard a sickening tearing of cloth and flesh... only cared about getting away. Above the doorway out of this room, I saw the final message clawed into the metal with bone or fingernails...

"ABANDONED BY GOD"

I never got the pictures out of the camera. I never wrote the blog entry about it. After I ran from that place, fled for my sanity if not my very life, I knew why Disney didn't want anyone to know about this place.

They didn't want anyone like me getting in.

They didn't want anything like that getting out."

Luke 15:20
The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever. He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him.
Ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God. — Ye who sometime were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. — Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow-citizens with the saints, and of the household of God.

WHAT IS THE WORLD PUBLIC UNION?

The WORLD PUBLIC UNION is a publicly operated union made for the people by the people. The goal of the WPU is to change the world by centralizing an activist networking database comprised of groups and concerned citizens from all over the world. This real physical local union community connects to other unions from around the world and share their ideas and actions to ensure and maintain transparency in government and industry on local and global levels alike. It is an attempt to create glass walls within all government and industry buildings to ensure that the best interests and decisions are being made to benefit the earth and humanity. Greedy corporations and governments that are responsible for the turmoil seen throughout the world hide behind unjust laws to protect themselves while harming the public. There is a vast criminal empire that has colluded to gain total control of resources and all things required for human survival, and they are making trillions upon trillions of dollars from human enslavement. We have the ability and technology to live better, so let us try and achieve this common goal.

WPU MISSION STATEMENT

Attention citizens of the world,

If you are reading this then by now you must have noticed that we are all part of a historical time period in human evolution. It is the age of realization. We are finally beginning to understand what is most important in life by discovering what serves us best and that is the health and sustainability of the individual and the planet itself. We cannot keep repeating the mistakes of our ancestors and it is time for a solution, as opposed to re-solutions. It's time for us to begin this new era in human evolution, as opposed to repeating political games through r-evolutions. Many have claimed that a revolution is needed but it could never prove to be effective unless we change our ways, and understand that we need to evolve as individuals collectively for this revolution to occur. We cannot change history but we can learn from the past and shape the future. This solution lies within the mind of each individual. To ensure the true potential of our lives we need to view the world from a different perspective and start implementing the changes necessary for a world based on principles of love, prosperity, unity, equality and sustainability rather than greed, division, corruption, and competition, for these are the things in the world that are actually leading to its decline. Instead of chasing our tails and dealing with the effects of the cause, we must deal with the source of our problems directly and be informed about them in order to create positive solutions that benefit everyone equally.

Any changes that have ever occurred in the world were the result of someone's choices, decisions, intentions and actions. Individually, we all have the power to change our world because we have always made our own decisions and chose our own paths in life. In order for there to be change, then you have to make that change and there can be no other way that you could ever change your world without doing this. If we want something done, just as we always have, we do it ourselves and the World Public Union is a group without a leader, because it is a group of leaders. Each member leads themselves and makes their own decisions, takes their own actions and does not need approval to make positive changes in the community from anyone but themselves.

We are all sentient living human beings and as living beings we require some basic things to survive on a daily basis. We require food, warmth, shelter, water, and other basic elements to continue to live each day and raise a healthy family. Without these fundamentals we would certainly perish. Because of the large profits to be made, we do not have the right to live as we are meant to live in this life and that is to be free, sentient beings. This is the reason many third world countries still starve and go without while others thrive in greed and competition and the concerns of the general public are often disregarded. Wars are funded rather than helping fellow human beings in need of the essentials for basic survival. Banks and corporations are bailed out while the common people that make up a majority of the public are left to struggle. We have the technology to live off of free energy, to obtain clean drinking water, to abolish nuclear energy and to ensure healthy living through industry standards however even in this day and age this is hardly the case and profit is chosen instead of health and equality. The medical system profits from our illnesses when natural clean cures are suppressed to avoid curing themselves out of business. This is choosing a "Profit Over Life" mentality, a criminal mind and the time has come for something to be done about this epidemic of harmful acts against all humanity and the environment.

The WORLD PUBLIC UNION is a networking platform for activist groups to be found in one place so that it is easier to find like minded individuals in your local area. Many members of the WPU are also members of other groups and as it continues to grow local meetings, information sessions, rallies and much more begin to take place. A monthly meeting is held the first Sunday of the month for local unions that have enough members involved. It is a great resource for all free thinking human beings who want to make a difference in the world they are a part of. Each new union is like a seed and as it is given life and structure, so will the lives of the individuals making it happen and communities all around the world will start to see honest changes through publicly discussed issues and problem solving techniques. It is an evolution through truth and unity as new and improved ways of living are adapted, replacing old and outdated systems such as the monetary and political systems that are responsible for a vast majority of the injustices that exist within our world. If something is 'truthfully' not there, then it cannot 'truly' exist. This is how we eliminate tyranny. We need to simply identify the problem, change it and get rid of what is not working and serving us best. It is our outlook and perception as a collective which will define our children's and grandchildren's world we leave behind for them. Each and every one of us has the potential to create the change we want to see in the world. We just have to do it.

Identifying the problems we face is very important and openly discussing these issues without bias and manipulation the press, industry or government is very important. Many people are educating their friends and family on the hidden truths, deception and inequality they discover happening around them and in most cases it boils down to a simple reality. Government, industry, media and many other sources choose "Profit Over Life". If money cannot be made from it, then it is obsolete. The WORLD PUBLIC UNION reverses this ideology and practices and encourages "Life Over Profit". You CANNOT put a price on life and this statement is inarguable. You cannot debate over the value of someone's life. It has no monetary value and is the most important thing we have as human beings next to the planet itself. For those who say there are too many people to feed on the planet, we say put a hidden camera above a fast food restaurants garbage disposal and you will see exactly how profit is chosen over life. We absolutely must change our ways in order to make a better world for our children to grow up in.

The time has come for our evolution through truth and unity. Together we can make a difference one community at a time.

WPU HISTORY

The WORLD PUBLIC UNION was founded in Sudbury, Ontario Canada by documentary film maker, activist, and musician Mark Howitt in early 2011. The idea for the creation of the WPU came after his investigations into the content of his documentaries. He noticed that a large amount of the worlds population are aware of important issues but not much is being done to solve the problems. A network of groups on Facebook was created with the help of David Richardson and Barbra Geauvreau to allow for easier networking however many restrictions were put in place by Facebook and it took a couple of years to get an official website going. Information meetings were held at the apartment to discuss ways to help the world and eventually real physical meetings began to take place in public places. Many issues were targeted with positive results and this influenced others to do the same. This official website was created in 2013 to finally give the WORLD PUBLIC UNION a solid presence on the internet and the site continues to develop with the help of new ideas from members all over the world. The WPU website is a way to network throughout the world about the news that is often left out by the mainstream media and provide a platform for an activist networking database. To give the power back to the people to ensure government and industry standards for better living and prosperity for all nations.

John 12:19-36 (Gospel)

19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, “You see that you are accomplishing nothing. Look, the world has gone after Him!”
20 Now there were certain Greeks among those who came up to worship at the feast.
21 Then they came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.”
22 Philip came and told Andrew, and in turn Andrew and Philip told Jesus.
23 But Jesus answered them, saying, “The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified.
24 Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.
25 He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
26 If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.
27 Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour.
28 Father, glorify Your name. Then a voice came from heaven, saying, “I have both glorified it and will glorify it again.”
29 Therefore the people who stood by and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, “An angel has spoken to Him.”
30 Jesus answered and said, “This voice did not come because of Me, but for your sake.
31 Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.
32 And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.
33 This He said, signifying by what death He would die.
34 The people answered Him, “We have heard from the law that the Christ remains forever; and how can You say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up’? Who is this Son of Man?”
35 Then Jesus said to them, “A little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going.
36 While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light. These things Jesus spoke, and departed, and was hidden from them.

RE: 100 REASONS FOR BAROTSELAND’S TOTAL INDEPENDENCE
1. Nobody can refute the territorial integrity of Barotseland in the world.
2. Barotseland is an organic nation.
3. Barotzish did not renounce their nationality 1964.
4. Barotseland and Zambia did not confederate.
5. Nobody can claim anything under the Agreement that is not in force.
6. The Barotzis are not made by a constitution. The constitution was made by man and not man by the constitution. So we have already rejected the Zambian constitution.
7. The Litunga (King) cannot be a subject of his subjects viz councillors/ MPs.
8. Britain had no moral right to transfer Barotseland into the hands of a novice state (Zambia).
9. When Sir Mwanawina signed the Agreement, he represented the Nation of Barotseland, whereas Mr Kaunda represented his Government (temporal authority) so we have nothing to do with the successor governments.
10. Any Agreement does not offer rights to the third party.
11. The relationship of Britain and Barotseland was based on treaties signed, but when the treaties were terminated, also the relationship came to an end; similarly, the relationship between Barotseland and Zambia came to an end when Barotseland Agreement 1964 was terminated.
12. Zambia is occupying Barotseland illegally.
13. The Barotzish did not surrender their sovereignty to any state ever since.
14. Mr Kaunda signed Barotseland Agreement 1964 when he was a Malawian citizen until 1970 when he renounced his Malawian Nationality. Hence, he acted as an imposter; thus whatever he did to us is null and void.
15. The law of Zambia does not recognise Barotseland as a state party, but as a vassal state to it. This causes animosity.
16. We cannot debate our identity, self-determination and our right to our country.
17. There is nothing that gives Zambia any right to rule Barotseland apart from military hardware.
18. Nobody can convince us on how and when we became Zambians since the law proves the contrary.
19. The British tried to merge or compromise the two antithetical political systems viz republic and monarchy. This causes antagonism.
20. No law on earth is against liberty and self-rule.
21. No nation has the right to swallow another.
22. Independence is neither crime nor misdemeanour.
23. In default of the union Act, there is no law to prove that Barotseland and Zambia were politically united.
24. That which is made contrary to law is deemed not to have been done at all or it is illegal.
25. Barotseland is not a legal part of Zambia. The President of Zambia simply inherited the obligations of her Majesty the Queen of Great Britain (coloniser). So Zambia is a quasi-coloniser or protector of Barotseland.
26. Barotseland was treated like a serf since 1964 to date.
27. The law stipulates that the Agreement that has not entered into force is not legally binding, thus we have nothing to do with the Agreement and Zambia.
28. We stake a claim to Barotseland; nobody else can claim our territory.
29. Zambia wants to rely on the law of succession to rule Barotseland.
30. The Barotseland question requires the applicability of international law, justice and law of Agreements and Human Rights law and not laws of Zambia or personal opinions.
31. Unity, cohesion or relationship cannot be maintained by the barrel of the gun.
32. Colonisers can build schools, hospitals and roads, but that does not change their character and nature, they still remain colonisers.
33. We are fed up of being tormented, dominated and incarcerated by dishonest, unscrupulous and treacherous people (Zambia).
34. Mr Kaunda said “we cannot have a Nation within a Nation”; equally we cannot cease to be a Nation because of an ill-bred mortal being which does not want us to be.
35. As Barotzish, we cannot lose our nation on account of demagogic ideologies of “tiyende pamodzi.”
36. Zambia’s political propagandas and promises effected by security officers can never legitimize Zambia’s illegal occupation of Barotseland.
37. Mr Kaunda declared that the “Litunga is simply a chief (Induna) and Mr Sata resounded the same words; no sane Barotse person could be pleased with this state of affairs. This is an explicit testimony of hegemonic dominance.
38. Zambians are for the republic whereas Barotzis are for the Kingdom; two disparate systems cannot co-exist in a designed territory.
39. The essence for seeking for protection of Barotseland by King Lewanika was to preserve the territory for the future generations of which we are.
40. No country can sign a treaty with it-self.
41. Barotseland and Zambia cannot be one; these are two foreign countries.
42. Any developmental project that may appear in Barotseland is donor funded, this being the case; we ought to meet donors directly without any intermediary ourselves.
43. We have the ability, the intellect and knowledge to develop our country Barotseland.
44. The Barotzis do not enjoy the freedom of assembly and expression under the colonization of Zambia.
45. The Zambia Police shall continue assassinating people of Barotseland, if the yoke of Zambian hegemonic is not broken in Barotseland.
46. The Barotzis have never enjoyed their peace of mind since 1964.
47. The abrogation of the Agreement realizes Zambia of her responsibility arising from treaty obligations.
48. That which is not in conformity with law is illegal. N.B. there is no legal tie between Barotseland and Zambia.
49. Mr Kaunda took away all the powers of the Litunga (King) he had without consent of the people viz another testimony of domination.
50. There will be no harmony as long as aliens want to have control of our land or rather take it away.
51. The social and political struggle to reconstruct our nation out of various ethnic groups of Barotseland and to liberate Barotseland from Zambian oppression is a right.
52. We cannot afford continue celebrating the colonization of Barotseland by Zambia because it is a mental torture.
53. Barotseland was not a colony of Britain; so there is no justifiable reason for her to be colonised by a fellow African Nation.
54. What the British did not obtain by conquest Zambia want to possess by artifice.
55. Barotseland has been engaged in struggle against hegemonic dominance since 1965, hence she deserve freedom now.
56. The demise of white colonization did not signal the end of domination and subjugation of weaker by the stronger in Africa; hence Mr Sata President of Zambia told the Barotse Activists at State House “you are in a weaker position.”
57. The Agreement was terminated; we cannot continue to associate ourselves with Zambia anymore.
58. Our relation was artificial or not real and the condominium agreement we entered into has been rejected.
59. West Nyasa (Northern Rhodesia) Zambia was a British crown colony whereas Barotseland was a British Protectorate; the two are not compatible.
60. Zambian Government has been meddling in the internal affairs and interfering in the cultural and traditional activities of Barotseland; that is something detestable.
61. Legal axiom states “a thing is made and destroyed by one and the same means” viz Mr Kaunda made the relation and the same Mr Kaunda destroyed it; so things have fallen apart.
62. Barotseland as a Nation should enjoy the rights accorded to other nations.
63. Our lives as Barotzis are in danger and our community is likely to force extinction as soldiers have been ordered to kill those they identify as Lozi language speakers.
64. Barotzis are charged with treason even for talking about their history.
65. Barotseland is cited to be backward in terms of development by Zambia Central Statistical Office, and our country has been impoverished by design.
66. If we are the owners of Barotseland and everything in it, then we must be the ones in-charge of our resources, control and manage it without restraint.
67. We are fed up with divide and rule tactics of Zambian Governments where a dog is set to eat another dog.
68. The Barotse plain or Lealui has been declared a world heritage site viz a place of historical and cultural importance; for this reason Barotseland cannot be swallowed but be revived.
69. There is absolutely nothing that compels or binds Barotseland to Zambia.
70. President Kaunda arrested and detained Barotzis; President Banda’s Government did not only arrest but killed; President Sata found it fit to declare war and ordered soldiers to kill as did Mr Banda. There seem to be a deliberate policy worse than that of white colonialism.
71. We are treated as rebels and criminals by Zambian Government for the knowledge of our rights.
72. The Zambian Constitution Review Commission 2003 stated that “Zambian Government derives its authority over Barotseland from the Barotseland Agreement 1964” further stated; failing to honour the Barotseland Agreement raises a question as to where the Zambian Government derives its authority from.
73. We want to be in a position where we can face Zambia on the atrocities she has committed; because they have been arrogantly saying “you cannot bite the finger that feeds you”.
74. The Zambia Government has already betrayed us; we don’t want the Rwandan situation to occur.
75. Africa currently uses the principle of “uti possideto” viz the permanence of inherited colonial frontiers safe-guarding existing boundaries; this being so, we too have to guard our boundaries.
76. We are against forced assimilation.
77. After dissolution of the federation, there could be no Zambia in Malawi; similarly after termination of the Agreement we could have no Barotseland in Zambia only senseless people can condone that.
78. Since the original idea that intended to preserve Barotseland’s autonomy within Zambia was curtailed, this time we cannot dream of fresh Agreements to be an enclave that would be as good as taking one step forward and one step backwards.
79. By advocating for inclusion of the Agreement in the Zambian constitution; some Barotzish were begging to be part of Zambia; which is a clear testimony that they have realised that they were excluded.
80. Administering a territory is not synonymous with unification period.
81. We wish to be conducting memorial services freely for our beloved ones who were butchered by Zambia.
82. No part of Barotseland was ceded to any country by consent of her inhabitants.
83. Our national anthem still remains “Barotseland is the land of our forefathers and not anything else.
84. It is contrary to Human Rights norms for Barotseland to continue being colonised.
85. Barotseland was not destined to be ruled or governed by aliens (Zambians).
86. We are a country with an African identity.
87. The situation of Barotseland and her people demands social justice and formal to prevail.
88. The Barotzis have been trying to be realistic with their state of affairs; whereas Zambians are idealistic and full of injustice.
89. If trying to bring two disparate nations of Barotseland and Zambia to make one was an experiment, then the observation of killing and declaration of war conclude that the desired transformation can never take place.
90. The Barotzis cannot be transformed into anything else (c.f. Musasa Musiwa’s Lozi song) just as paraffin and water cannot mix though both are liquids.
91. The applicability of the right to self-determination cannot be limited to cases of Africa struggling against white rule.
92. The building block upon which Zambia was constructed and extended to Barotseland was deceit, lies, treachery, delusion, dishonest and unfaithfulness.
93. Sometimes a rider may feed a horse nicely and fatten it, and wash it, but that does not change situation of a rider and a horse.
94. Of all the British Protectorates only Barotseland was cast into the den of Zambians to be devoured by her.
95. It is a deliberate policy that Barotzis have to be arrested and detained without any offence and then released on Nolle Prosecui so that they cannot be compensated.
96. We are in a situation where Judges are suspended if they dispense justice fairly.
97. After killing people in Barotseland nobody in Zambia ever thought of reconciliation or redress instead people of Barotseland were teased with Chongwe Commission an exercise in futility.
98. We are not termed as animals even if we were, when a termed animal revert to its natural habitat or jungle life, nothing is wrong; it is in order.
99. We are human beings with dignity, we deserve to be respected and not taken for granted or for a cheap commodity.
100. Our people could not shed blood and die in vain if what they died for cannot be accomplished. They lost lives by the order of the diabolic government.

However, with the above reasons given, we feel the two nations will never be one, and that there is no union or relationship between Barotseland and Zambia, and these two nations will remains as neighbours for ever more. This is the fact that must be understood by all sane people.

The Mosquito Thought! & Your Life

I was peacefully asleep in my comfortable bed after a tiring day and from no where I had a Mosquito bite me. One swift motion of my hand and I had killed the Mosquito. I fell asleep again. After some time it was yet another mosquito trying to disturb me from my rest. Another swift movement of my hands and the second mosquito too fell dead.

At times mosquitoes escape but only to become victims sooner or later. That set me thinking about the theory of KARMA or ACTION. What we do unto others, others do unto us.

If I trouble someone, I too get into trouble sooner or later. KARMA is all about facing the CONSEQUENCES OF ACTION. Good actions give you good outcomes and bad actions give you the bad consequences.

So learn to Speak Good, Do Good, & Think Good.

Learn to adopt the principle of WATCH = Words, Actions, & Thoughts Communicates Harmony.

Let your spirit Within help you WIN your mind to perform right actions for right results.

Learn to lead an Ethical life, a Simple life free from jealousy and greed. Your life on this earth is temporary and hence let us not trouble or hurt others just to fulfill our needs, wants and desires. Let us move from selfishness to selflessness like Mother Theresa.

Let us look at unity in diversity of thought, speech and action.

Q: Is the Earth’s climate really warming?

A: Yes, it is an unequivocal fact that the Earth’s average temperature continues to rise, despite some natural year-to-year fluctuations. The hottest 10 years on record have all taken place in the past dozen years. Each of the past three decades has been substantially warmer than the decade prior to it.

All analyses of all surface temperature data sets compiled by major climate centers around the world show a clear warming trend. Besides these thousands of thermometer readings from weather stations around the world, there are many other clear indicators of global warming such as rising ocean temperatures, sea level, and atmospheric humidity, and declining snow cover, glacier mass, and sea ice.

Because temperatures vary from year to year, scientists measure trends in running averages and analyze trends over decades rather than expecting every year to be hotter than the previous year. Some years have particular factors that make them hotter than those just before and after. For example, a major El Niño event combined with the persistent rise in heat-trapping gases made 1998 one of the hottest years on record. That has caused some people to claim that Earth has been “cooling” since then. But as the data clearly show, this claim is false.

Shaheed Guru Arjan Dev Ji

Guru Arjan Dev was the fifth Guru of the Sikhs. He was the first Sikh Martyr. a martyr is a person who is punished with death for refusing to give up his faith. A person who suffers or sacrifices his life, for great cause is also called a martyr. Guru Arjan Dev is called a martyr because, he went through untold bodily sufferings for the noble cause of freedom of faith and worship; because he condemned the rulers and the rich for their tyranny over the people; because he aroused in people's hearts a sense of dignity and self-respect, and because he refused to give up his faith and embrace Islam. Because of all that, he was ordered to be put to death by torture. Guru Arjan took up his duties as the fifth Guru in April 1563 A.D. At that time Akbar was the Emperor of India. he was a pious, kind-hearted and liberal-minded man. He was not a fanatic Muslim. He treated all his subjects in the same manner. He wanted all his subjects, Muslims as well as non-Muslims, to be equal citizens of his empire. His aim was to make his empire a secular State. All religions were to be treated alike. Islam was only one of the religions in the empire. The law of Islam was not to be the law of the land. Akbar had a very favorable and high opinion of the Sikhs and their Gurus. He took special pains to meet and befriend them.
Akbar was succeeded by his son, Jahangir, in October 1605 A.D. He was altogether different from his father. He was not pious, kind-hearted, or liberal-minded. He changed the religious policy of the empire. He made Islam the law of the land. The Qazis became the law-givers. They were all fanatic and bigoted. They believed that their own religion was the only true religion. In their view all other religions were false. All such religions, to them, forms of falsehood or kufar. Their followers were called "kafirs" or infidels, worshippers of falsehood. The Qazis believed that kafirs had no right to live in a Muslim state. In their opinion, the law of Islam required that all non-Muslims subjects must be converted to Islam or killed. Those who accepted Islam were given special favors and concessions. Those who did not give up their faith were subjected to all sorts of hardships. Guru Arjan Dev's martyrdom was a result of this religious policy of Jahangir.
Guru Arjan Dev took up his duties in 1581. He was a great organizer and an able administrator. He set about organizing and uniting the Sikhs, increasing their numbers and improving their position. His manifold activities infused public spirit into the Sikh community. From the time of Guru Nanak, Hindus as well as Muslims, had been accepting the Sikh faith of their own accord and free will. They had been drawn into the Sikh fold charmed by the life and teachings of the Gurus. The Muslim rulers and Qazis did not like the conversion of Muslims to Sikhism. Under Guru Arjan Dev's influence also both Hindus and Muslims in large number became Sikhs. The rapid development of the Sikhs at this time, and the ever-growing influence of Guru Arjan Dev, annoyed Jahangir and the Qazis. Their annoyance was only natural. They aimed at converting all non-Muslims to Islam. But they found that under Guru Arjan Dev's influence, Muslims were giving up their own faith and embracing Sikhism. This they could never tolerate. It had to be checked. An end had to be put to Guru Arjan Dev's life and activities.
Emperor Jahangir came to the throne in October 1605. Guru Arjan Dev had been carring on his work since September 1581, that is, for over twenty-four years. He had achieved brilliant success. The Qazis and other fanatic Muslims were furious. They would sometimes, meet the Emperor and complain to him against the Guru. They said in Goindwal, which is on the bank of the river Beas in the Punjab, there is a religious teacher named (Guru) Arjan. He is looked upon as a holy saint. he has a great following. He preaches a religion which is opposed Islam. It is called Sikhism. He has become very popular. Not only Hindus, but even Muslims, are being charmed and captured by his ways, life and teachings. From all sides crowd of people Hindus and Muslims flock to him. They express devotion to him and faith in him. They give up their own religion and embrace the religion preached by him. Muslims in large numbers have become his followers or Sikhs. More and more are doing so every day. All this is happening in the empire of a Muslim Emperor. It is very sad and saddening. It is your duty to stop this. We appeal to you to do your duty towards Islam.
Jahangir, as a matter of fact, was of the same view. As he says in his Memories called Tuzuk-i-Jahangiri, he had been having the same thoughts for many years. For many years, writes he, the thoughts had been coming into my mind that I should either put an end to his (Guru Arjan's) life and activities, or bring him into the fold of Islam. He assured the qazis and other that he would do this at the first suitable opportunity. Emperor Jahangir had thus clearly and finally made up his mind to convert or kill Guru Arjan Dev. He was on the look-out for a suitable chance and excuse to carry out that resolve. That chance came to him about six months after his having occupied the throne. he got the long-sought chance in the rebellion of his eldest son, Khusrau. He didn't want to miss it. He jumped at it. Prince Khusrau had been Akbar's favorite. Akbar had wished that Khusrau should be the Emperor after him. But Jahangir managed to seize the throne. Prince Khusrau rose in rebellion against his father but he was defeated. He fled towards Lahore pursued by Jahangir himself. During his march from Agra to Lahore, Jahangir made enquiries to find out who had helped or sympathized with his rebel son. He punished all those who were reported to have shown any interest in Khusrau. For example, Sheikh Nazam of Thanesar was reported to have prayed for Khusrau's success welfare. He was exiled and sent to Mecca.
Emperor Jahangir passed through the tract of the Majha. He even stopped at Goindwal, where the Guru was supposed to be residing at the time. He passed by Tarn Taran, where Guru Arjan Dev Ji was then actually staying. But no complaint reached his ears at these places about the Guru having helped Khusrau in any way. If the Guru had even met the rebel Prince, the fact would have been known to the Emperor's officials, qazis and others. They would not have failed to bring the matter to his notice. Moreover, the Guru had a number of enemies. they would have hurried eagerly to meet the Emperor to report against the Guru Arjan. but the Emperor received no report against Guru Arjan Dev anywhere, from official or non-official sources. All this clearly shows that Guru Arjan Dev Ji had not met or helped Khusrau. The Emperor reached Lahore without having received any report or complaint against Guru Arjan Dev. Khusrau was captured at the banks of the Chenab. He was brought to Lahore. His helpers and companions were all put to death. His eye lids were sewn up and he was imprisoned for life. About a month passed in this way. Even during this period, no report or complaint was received against Guru Arjan Dev Ji.
After having punished Khusrau and his friends, Jahangir got ready to leave Lahore. It was at that time that report was made to him against the Guru. It was reported that Guru had befriended the rebel Prince. Here is what the Emperor wrote about it in his Memoirs: ' At that time Khusrau crossed the river and passed that way (that is, by Goindwal). That foolish fellow resolved to secure the Guru's services. He encamped at that place where the Guru resided. He met him and talked of past affairs with him. With his finger he (Guru Arjan) made on the Prince's forehead a saffron mark called tilak. This mark is considered by the Hindus to be a sign of good luck. I fully knew of his kufar or false beliefs and false propaganda. When this matter was reported to me, I ordered that he should be brought into my presence, that his houses and children should be made over to Murtza Khan, that his property should be confiscated, and he should be put to death with torture.'
In accordance with these orders of the Emperor, his men went to Amritsar in order to arrest the Guru and take him to Lahore. On seeing Jahangir's men and learning from the object, the Sikhs became afraid and sad. they approached the Guru and said, 'O True King, when Sulhi Khan came to attack you, you prayed to God. Your prayer was accepted. Sulhi Khan fell from horse and was reduced to ashes in a kiln. Do the same now, O True King. Pray to God. He will accept your prayer. He will punish your enemies. He will save you.' The Guru replied, 'No, my dear Sikhs. Times are different now. My duty is different now. My prayer must also be different. Baba Nanak has said, "Those who are eager to follow my path of love, should be ever prepared to die most readily and joyously. They should first place their hands on their palms, and then enter the lane leading to my abode. Only those should enter this path who can part with their heads without the least hesitation or fear." 'I entered Baba Nanak's path knowing full well what was expected of me. Shall I be found wanting? I must not hesitate to die. Moreover, I have done no wrong to anybody. Jahangir has no case against me. I have never 'converted' any Muslim or Hindu. I have never asked or persuaded anyone to enter the Sikh fold. People came, they see and hear, and they accept the Faith. Why should the Emperor object? Why should he be angry? People should be free to choose their faith and form of worship. Different religions are really different paths leading to the Abode of God. But the Emperor is out to deny freedom of faith and worship to his subjects. That is not proper. I would like to change this. I shall let myself be tortured and killed. The story of my torture and of the manner in which I bear it will have a wholesome effect on the Emperor. He will change for the better, I hope.'
'Moreover, I have been telling people to accept even His bitterest Will with joy. I must practice what I teach and preach. I am glad that God is granting me an opportunity to do that. I must hail and accept it. The tale of my tortures will arouse the people. They will feel and urge to effect a change. It will fill them with a firm resolve to end the rule under which such things are made to happen. They will rise to assert their rights. My son, Guru Har Gobind, will arm them and train them to fight and die for their faith. I shall not die in vain. As for the torture it will affect my body not me. I shall not feel it. I shall be in his lap all the time. My dears, God has arranged all things well and wisely, and for the best benefit of His people. Why should I pray to Him to change His scheme of things? All will be for the good of my people. It will advance my people on the path laid down for them by Baba Nanak. My death will drive the first nail in the cruel Mughals' coffin. More, many more, will follow. So let me go. Get ready to become God's warriors, champions of truth and liberty, friends of men and foes of all tyrants. Be ready to fight for your faith and principles under the command of Guru Har Gobind. He has been specially trained to be a soldier. He will lead you to the victory. Cheer up, therefore, and let me go.'
The Sikhs bowed and said no more. the Guru then offered prayers at Har Mandir, the temple of God. He prayed for strength to bear everything without a groan or complaint. He then offered himself for arrest. Jahangir's men arrested him and took him to Lahore. Five Sikhs went with him. He forbade all others to accompany him. So, Jahangir gave orders that Guru Arjan Dev should be arrested and brought into his presence. But, he did not wait for the Guru's production before him. Having instructed his officers at Lahore how to treat the Guru, he left for Delhi. An official named Chandu took upon himself the work of killing the Guru by torture. This Chandu was a Khatri of Lahore, holding an office in Jahangir's court at Delhi. He had wanted to marry his daughter to Guru Arjan Dev's son, Sri Guru Har Gobind Sahib, but he had used insulting words against the Guru. The Sikhs of Delhi had heard these words. They had requested the Guru not to accept Chandu's offer. The Guru had conceded to their request. On this account Chandu had become a bitter enemy of the Guru. It was for this reason that he undertook to put the Guru to death by torture.
Chandu took the Guru to his house. There he began to torture him. During the first day and night, the Guru was kept without food and drink. He was not allowed to sleep. We have to remember that all this was taking place in mid-summer at Lahore, which is a very hot place. The Guru remained absorbed in meditation. He kept repeating God's Name all the time. On the second day, he was seated in a large vessel of water heated from below. The water was made to boil. The Guru sat in the boiling water, calmly meditating on God. Then, red-hot sand was poured over Guru's head and body. On the third day, he was seated on a red-hot iron plate which was being heated more and more with fire under it. And, again the hot sand was poured on his head and uncovered body. These tortures went on for four days. Several jogis and religious men, who had met and admired the Guru, went to him to express their sympathy and horror. Hazrat Mian Mir, the renowned Muslim saint of Lahore, also went for that purpose. He was struck with horror on seeing what was being done to the Guru. He cried aloud and shed bitter tears of anguish. Then he said to the Guru, ' You are gifted with immense spiritual powers. You are a true devotee of Almighty God. True devotees of God are as mighty as He. You possess the power to destroy those who are putting you to these tortures. Why don't you use those powers? Why do you helplessly bear these dreadful tortures? Surly, if you were to wish it, He would surely come, destroy the wicked people, and end your sufferings. If you do not want to use your powers, if you do not want to call upon God to come and save you, then permit me to do so. I am sure he will come, May I?"
Guru Arjan Dev replied, ' My dear friend, what you say is right. But I would not resort to miracle-working in order to save myself from suffering or death. Men of God never use their God-given powers for such purposes. I want to let things happen as He wills them to happen. I don't wish to interfere in the working of His will. I have been telling my Sikhs, "Remember Him in weal and woe, in pleasure and in pain. Accept as sweet and pleasant even His most bitter and painful Will. Regard all pleasure and pain, all joys and sorrows, as His sweet gifts." I am lucky, indeed, that God has granted me an opportunity to prove the truth of my words. In my heart of hearts I have prayed for such an opportunity. It has been given to me. I hail it and avail myself of it with utmost joy and thanks. I should not now like even God to take away this opportunity from me. By bearing all these tortures, I want to let the people see that what i teach can be put into practice too. That will strengthen them to bear, in the same manner, all that He may cause to happen. Hard times are coming. My people will be called upon to pass through extreme and severe sufferings for their faith. I wish to show how such sufferings have to be accepted and borne. I want to set an example to teachers and devotees the True Name and Truth. I want to teach them that they should not complain against God and His will. The true test of faith is the hour of misery. Without examples to guide them, ordinary persons' minds give way and are shaken in the midst of sufferings. My example will inspire and strengthen them.
'Secondly, a truly religious man should have the strength to suffer every form of torture for the sake of his faith. He should openly profess it, declare it, and stick to it, come what may. God has given me that strength. I must use it, so that weaker ones may take heart and follow my example. In the third place, the body is subject to pleasure and pain. The spirit is above these things. Hence, with His grace, I can rise above the torture imposed on my body. My spirit is absorbed in meditating on God. The body has to perish one day. I would not set aside this law of nature. Let His will be done. Let the body perish in the way He wills it to perish. His will is sweet. I am content and at peace. Don't worry my friend. All is well. Pray for me that I may be able to bear with calmness and joy all that He may be pleased to make me endure.' Mian Mir bowed to the Guru and took his leave. The Guru's body was full of blisters. It was rendered soft like boiled flesh. It became extremely weak. At last he was made to walk to the river Ravi. His five Sikhs were permitted to be with him on the way, to help and support him. To add to his tortures, Guru's blistered body was thrown into the cold water of the river Ravi. Guru's body was too weak to stand against the force of the fast-flowing stream. It was washed away to its final rest. The Guru's soul flew to the bosom of the All-loving Father of all.
Emperor Jahangir's orders were thus carried out. Guru Arjan Dev was 'killed by torture'. All the same, Guru Arjan Dev was not dead. He lives in the hearts of millions of his devoted followers and admirers. He lives in the hundred of sacred songs which he composed and embodied in the Sacred Guru Granth. He will live as long as the lofty principles and ideals preached and practiced by him are valued by mankind. He was one with God on earth; he is one with God in heaven now. He will live as long as God lives in the hearts of men. His death made him immortal. He will remain a source of ever-fresh inspiration to all who feel and urge for a life of the spirit; to all who yearn for such a world-order as was pictured and preached by Guru Arjan Dev, namely that of, 'enmity with none and friendship for all'. Guru Arjan Dev was martyred in May 1606, that is, seven months after Jahangir came to the throne. His words about the Guru quoted above were written by him on June 13,1606, that is, a fortnight after the Guru's martyrdom.
At the spot where the Guru's body was thrown into the river was later erected a Gurdwara. It is called Dehra Sahib. Before 'Partition' a big fair called Jor Mela, was annually held there to celebrate the Guru's martyrdom.

When Jesus Christ’s disciples asked Him about His return and the “end of the world” their focus was not on the physical end of the earth and its civilization per se. They had in mind the end of the age of man’s rule (the Greek word translated “world” is aion, meaning “age”) and the commencement of a different age ruled by Jesus Christ as king, a reign identified elsewhere in Scripture as the kingdom of God.

In His reply, Christ described the many and varied conditions that would precede His return. They included such things as deception, wars, famines, disease epidemics, earthquakes and religious persecution, all culminating in an unprecedented time of worldwide calamity. We have already experienced in the disastrous 20th and 21st centuries many harbingers of just such a calamity. The earthquake in Japan and ensuing tsunami is a good example. But if we are to believe the prophecies of Scripture, there are many worse events yet to come. (Matt. 24: 3-29)

Just before Jesus’ return He continued by say, ‘Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven. And there shall be signs in the sun and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.’” (Luke 21 v.10-11, 25-26)
The Apostle Paul Addresses Signs of Jesus’ Return

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. (2 Timothy 3:1-7) According to this, a communication gap is not the problem. The cause of increasing immorality is simply an increase in pride and sinfulness; a decrease in desire for true godliness.

The Apostle Paul accurately predicted, “The time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths” (2 Tim. 4:3, 4). It is understood, the “desires” which some will try to “suit” are sinful! Could it be that doctrinal mythology is the result of people with “itching ears” turning to “a great number of teachers” who will say what itching ears with sinful desires want to hear?

Without Natural Affection – One of the most basic Judeo Christian principles has been the natural and beautiful attraction between the sexes. The love of a mother and father for their children, the love of the extended family for each other, and the love of one’s country were similarly considered “natural.” Today we are living in a depraved Romans chapter one world that many fear God has given or will give up to “vile passions” that reverse the normal order of things. (Roman 1 v.26-27)
The Apostle Peter Addresses Signs Of Jesus’ Second Coming

It is fascinating to note that almost 2000 years ago the apostle Peter, an untrained Galilean fisherman, predicted the exact thinking patterns that would characterize these scoffers. He prophesied that … “Scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. But the heavens and the earth which now exist are kept in store by the same word, reserved for fire until the Day of Judgment and perdition of ungodly men.” (2 Peter 3 v.3-7)

Why does Peter say that the scoffers are so blind? He provides us with 2 reasons why: The first is found in 2 Peter 3 v5, “For this they willfully forget.” The unregenerate minds of unbelievers resist the idea of the intervention of God in human affairs. Their problem is spiritual, a matter of the will, and the unbeliever remains deliberately ignorant of the truth. Peter mentions a second reason for the scoffer’s intellectual blindness in verse 3. He was told that “the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.”
The King is coming, enjoy this video as you continue to read on:

The Prophet Daniel On The Final Days When Jesus Comes Again

“Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly” But Daniel was told that the remaining prophecies are sealed until the last days and that “the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.” (Dan. 12 v.9)
The Top 7 Signs of the Tribulation

Rev. 9: 20 lists the top 7 signs of the Tribulation:

Rebellion against God (“They did not repent”).
Worship of Demons

Why not accept the Lord as Savior today and cleanse all sin from your life and your entry into heaven is secure. Jesus sacrifice renders you blameless before God in the Great Day of Judgment (Rev. 20:12). You can be in front of two different Judgment Seats. The Beam Seat of Christ, where the saved are given their eternal rewards, and with it, eternal life or at the Great White Throne Judgment, where the only judgment is to be separated from Jesus Christ for eternity. No one knows the day Christ will return. The end your chance to be saved can come anytime because no one has any guarantee that they will live beyond tomorrow. Die without Christ and the end is now. Here’s how to make certain you are ready at any time:
How to Receive & Know you Have Eternal Life

Admit – that you are a sinner and in need of a Savior (Rom 6:23)

Abandon – self-effort and realize that you can not be saved by your works or your own efforts (Acts 16:31)

Accept freely Christ’s payment for your sins, required of the Father (John 3:16)

Acknowledge Jesus Christ as your personal lord and Savior (Acts 4:12)

Now you can never be lost again and can live forever (John 10:28-29). As I said, no one has any guarantee that they will live beyond tomorrow and if you die without Christ, for you, the end is now; and for all eternity. Make the decision today, right now. His return has never been closer than it is today. No one knows exactly when Jesus returns but Hebrews 3:7-15 and II Corinthians 6:2 say that, Today is the accepted day of salvation, and now is the day of salvation. Tomorrow may never come. I beg you to come today, while it is still called today.

Ezra 1-2

1 Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,

2 Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, The Lord God of heaven hath given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he hath charged me to build him an house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah.

3 Who is there among you of all his people? his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and build the house of the Lord God of Israel, (he is the God,) which is in Jerusalem.

4 And whosoever remaineth in any place where he sojourneth, let the men of his place help him with silver, and with gold, and with goods, and with beasts, beside the freewill offering for the house of God that is in Jerusalem.

John 19:23-42

23 Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.

24 They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.

25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.

26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!

27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.

28 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.

29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.

30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

32 Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.

33 But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:

34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.

35 And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.

36 For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.

37 And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.

38 And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.

39 And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.

40 Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.

41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.

42 There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews' preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.

Man has taken many journeys throughout time. But there is one journey that nobody has ever taken.

Nobody—except one.

On a vehicle no man has ever ridden, through a path no soul has ever seen. To a place no creation has ever before set foot. It was the journey of one man to meet the Divine. It was the journey of Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, Prophet of Allah, to the highest heaven.

It was al Israa wal Miraaj (the magnificent journey).

On that journey Allah took his beloved Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam to the seventh heaven—a place not even angel Jibril could enter. In the Prophet’s mission on earth, every instruction, every commandment was sent down through angel Jibril. But, there was one commandment that was not. There was one commandment so important, that rather than sending angel Jibril down with it, Allah brought the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam up to Himself.

That commandment was Salah (prayer). When the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam was first given the command to pray, it was to be fifty times in a day. After asking Allah to make it easier, the commandment was eventually reduced to five times a day, with the reward of the fifty.

Reflecting upon this incident scholars have explained that the process of going from fifty to five was a deliberate one, intended to teach us the true place Salah should hold in our lives. Imagine for a moment actually praying fifty times a day. Would we be able to do anything else but pray? No. And that’s the point. What greater way than that to illustrate our life’s true purpose? As if to say, Salah is our real life; all the rest that we fill our day with…just motions.

And yet, we live as if it’s exactly the opposite. Salah is something we squeeze into our day, when we find time—if that. Our ‘lives’ don’t revolve around Salah. Salah revolves around our ‘lives.’ If we are in class, Salah is an afterthought. If we are at the mall, the Macy’s sale is more urgent. Something is seriously wrong when we put aside the very purpose of our existence in order to watch a basketball game.

And that is for those who even pray at all. There are those who have not only put aside their life’s purpose, they have abandoned it completely. What we often do not realize about the abandonment of Salah is this: No scholar has ever held the opinion that committing zina (fornication) makes you a disbeliever. No scholar has ever held the opinion that stealing, drinking or taking drugs makes you a disbeliever. No scholar has even claimed that murder makes you a non-Muslim. But, about Salah, some scholars have said he who abandons it, is no longer Muslim. This is said based on ahadith such as this one: “The covenant between us and them is prayer, so if anyone abandons it, he has become a disbeliever.” [Ahmad]

Imagine an act so egregious that the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam would speak about it is such a way. Consider for a moment what Satan (Iblis) did wrong. He did not refuse to believe in Allah. He refused to make one sajdah. Just one. Imagine all the sajdahs we refuse to make.

Consider the seriousness of such a refusal. And yet, think how lightly we take the matter of Salah. Salah is the first thing we will be asked about on the Day of Judgment, and yet it is the last thing that is on our mind. The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said: “The first thing which will be judged among a man’s deeds on the Day of Resurrection is the Prayer. If this is in good order then he will succeed and prosper but if it is defective then he will fail and will be a loser.” [Tirmidhi]

On that Day, the people of paradise will ask those who have entered Hell-fire, why they have entered it. And the Qur’an tells us exactly what their first response will be: “What led you into Hell Fire? They will say: ‘We were not of those who prayed.’” (Qur’an, 74:42-43)

How many of us will be among those who say “we were not of those who prayed, or we were not of those who prayed on time, or we were not of those who made prayer any priority in our lives?” Why is it that if we’re in class or at work or fast asleep at the time of Fajr and we need to use the restroom, we make time for that? In fact, the question almost sounds absurd. We don’t even consider it an option not to. And even if we were taking the most important exam of our lives, when we need to go, we will go. Why? Because the potentially mortifying consequences of not going, makes it a non-option.

There are many people who say they do not have time to pray at work or school, or while they’re out. But how many have ever said they don’t have time to go to the bathroom, so while out, at work or school have opted instead to just wear Depends? How many of us just don’t feel like waking up at Fajr time if we need to use the bathroom, and choose instead to wet our bed? The truth is we’ll get out of bed, or leave class, or stop work, to use the bathroom, but not to pray.

It sounds comical, but the truth is we put the needs of our body above the needs of our soul. We feed our bodies, because if we did not, we would die. But so many of us starve our souls, forgetting that if we are not praying our soul is dead. And ironically, the body that we tend to is only temporary, while the soul that we neglect is eternal.

Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wasallam) said: “By Allah, this world in comparison to the hereafter is nothing but as though one of you dipped his finger in the sea. So ponder how much (of sea water), the finger returns with.” [Mishkaat]

The duration of the Day of Judgment is equal to 50,000 years. The sun will be brought overhead so that it is unbearably hot. People will be drenched in their sweat according to the amount of their sins. Some will be ankle deep in it, some will be in it up to their ears. In this condition, people will be standing for hundreds of earth years and not even a minute of that day will have gone by. Those who love Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) in this world will be under the shade of Allah’s Throne on the Day of Judgment – the only shade available that Day.

That is why Luqman Hakeem advised his son: “Serve this world according to the time you are going to spend in it, and work for the akhirah according to the time you are going to spend in it.” After we have been standing in the same spot for thousands of years, our life on earth is going to look like nothing!

Make a ratio of your time on earth compared to your time on the single Day of Judgment. If you live for a hundred years, it is 100: 50,000. The time to spend each day in the pursuit of dunya comes out to be less than 3 minutes! The rest of the day should be spent preparing for the Day of Judgment. If you were to make a ratio between the time to be spent in dunya compared to the time in akhira, it would be 100 years: infinity. Any number compared to infinity becomes zero. Effectively, the significance of the duration on dunya becomes zero. 0 minutes, not even 3 minutes! How is it possible that we spend all our time preparing for the akirah?

THE BALANCE AND ITS REWRD IN A BELIEVERS LIFE!!!!

Faith Responds From A Believing Heart Into An Obedient Life

In the letter of James we read, “For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is also dead” (Jas 2:26). The Christian is exhorted to exercise a demonstrative faith that is wrought in good deeds and pleasing in God’s sight.

Historically, we the readers, are left to guess the time and spiritual condition of the believers whom James was writing. The only clue given was that of scattered Jews from the twelve tribes. What was James’ purpose for having written such a letter? What was the atmosphere then that possibly triggered him to instruct and encourage the believers? Why the need to emphasize measure of faith against trials, temptations, deceptions and oppressive actions?

James presents his case before the Jewish Christians and rhetorically questions the validity of a claim to faith without deeds. In the near context of chapter two, he confronts the claim with a practical instance from everyday life: an encounter with an unclothed and hungry brother. The pressing situation necessitates a physical dependence upon the action of another brother to care for and meet such needs. A mere response of worldly wishes does the person no good. Polite words uttered with much feeling but no real meaning can dangerously distance our personal safety from the present reality (Jas 2:14-16). Faith unaccompanied accomplishes nothing (2:17). Such a faith is rendered barren because of inactivity. This is the description of a thoughtless and profitless belief yielding no fruitful but foolish results (2:18-20).

Contextual Illustrations Of Faith

As we evaluate the weight of James’ words, we need to recognize the importance of placing verse 2:26 in its near/immediate context of verses 14-26. This passage readily point out the contrasts of a false and genuine faith. Good comparisons were made between the use of James’ two illustrations lifted from everyday encounters: The example of favoritism toward the rich in verses 1-7 and negligence toward the poor challenges us to re-examine the outworkings of our faith in verses 14-16. An emphasis on James’ question “Can this kind of faith save you?” addressed the difference between one’s claim to faith (mere intellectual assent) as opposed to one’s call to action (direct personal involvement). Do we carry this claim out of convenience to our own selfish ends or out of a commitment to Him who we have to do?

The definition of faith is well described between what is fake and what is fact. The three types of faith described—demonic (v. 19), useless (v. 20), and dead (v. 26)—determine as well as expose the nature of one’s belief. The two facts of faith in verses 17 and 18 amply conclude its true condition: that of being lifeless and devoid of deeds. It shows how James literally strips off faith’s false facade and renders it naked to the shame of its impostors.

To further strengthen the argument, James warns of the stiff consequences of judgment issued in the subsequent verses (2:8-13). As we expound this passage, we would benefit and support “the faith that pleases God” recorded as the chapter’s eminent truth. Loving your neighbor as yourself in verse 8 calls for the individual expression of believers to actively participate in fulfilling God’s royal law: the law of love. Being the source of all other laws, the royal law oversees all human relationships. This verse correlates well with Galatians 5:6: The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. According to Fee and Stuart, “Orthodoxy is correct belief. Orthopraxy is correct action. Through the prophets, God calls the people of ancient Israel and Judah to a balance of right belief and action. This, of course, remains the very balance that the new covenant requires as well (cf. Jas 1:27; 2:18; Eph 2:8-10). What God wants of Israel and Judah is, in a general sense, the same as what He wants of us. For those who obey the stipulations of the new covenant (loving God and loving one’s neighbor), the final, eternal result will be blessing, even though the results in this world are not guaranteed to be so encouraging. For those who disobey, the result can be only curse, regardless of how one fares during life on earth.”[i]

Ancestral Applications Of Faith

A significant portion of the passage we are studying focuses on the actual ancestral applications of faith. This section draws its strength from the two experiential evidences of Abraham and Rahab—a friend of Jehovah and an outcast from Jericho. A patriarch and prostitute who are highly regarded by the Jews as models who manifested righteous deeds that pleased God. Their actions spoke louder than words. The root of their faith bore fruit in obedience. Personal sacrifice was what it cost them: the life of his son and the safety of her family. In both cases, we witnessed that faith expresses itself by a demonstrated action. Mears notes, “Faith which does not express itself in works is of no value. Faith is revealed by what we do. What is the use of anyone’s saying that he has faith if he does not prove it by his actions? Just as a body without a spirit is dead, so faith is dead without actions (2:17).”[ii] Faith fleshed itself out in the lives of a man and woman who desired to obey God. The evidence was wrought in deeds of righteousness.

Righteousness was found in Abraham’s altar of action. Faith and action “working together” (2:22) make up two sides of the same coin. The root of Abraham’s faith in Genesis 15:6 bore fruit years later in Genesis 22. In the same way, Rahab’s sacrifice of safety was recorded as a righteous act (Jos 2:6-22; Heb 11:31; Jas 2:25). The results of their belief was manifested in their desire to obey God. These ancestral examples demonstrate the great difference between a naked faith and one clothed in righteousness. Faith that pleases God is always active, never passive. “For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is also dead” (2:26).

Doctrinal Balance Of Faith

Of course, a balance is needed in citing the difference of the justification and the validation of faith. These are important issues that should be clarified, especially for those who come from a background with strong leanings against a doctrine of works. Their preconceptions in the matter would facilitate such a question. Getz comments, “When studying the letter of James, particularly the passage we’re looking at in this chapter, Luther concluded that James was contradicting Paul. It is easy to see why. First, he had been reared in a religious community where he had been taught that a person gets to heaven by performing good works. Through personal study of the Scriptures, he discovered that this was a false doctrine. Consequently, he literally put his life on the line for the doctrine of justification by faith.”[iii] From Luther’s cultural perspective, we can see why he overreacted and misunderstood the sayings and teachings of James.

A distinct contrast, therefore, should be made with the faith that comes by hearing (Rom 10:17) and the faith that expresses by doing (Jas 1:22). The correlation of verses between these books (the message of Paul and James) would help substantiate rather than contradict the teachings of faith. Wilkinson and Boa add, “In Romans 4, Paul used the example of Abraham to show that Abraham was justified by faith, not by works. But James asserts that Abraham was justified by works (2:21). In spite of the apparent contradiction, Romans 4 and James 2 are really two sides of the same coin. In context, Paul is writing about justification before God while James cites the evidence of justification before men. A faith that produces no change is not saving faith.”[iv] In a comparison between the message of Paul and the message of James, the emphasis is readily observed: “Paul’s message calls attention to the ‘root,’ looking at what happens at the moment of salvation while James’ message calls attention to the ‘fruit,’ looking at what happens after salvation.”[v] Paul’s perspective focuses on God’s part, while James’ perspective focuses on man’s part. The terminology differs wherein Romans deals with the justification of faith, while James deals with the validation of faith.

If we were to derive any benefit from Scripture, it would have to depend on how we use it and on what response we make towards its message. Stott observes, “One of God’s recurring complaints in the biblical record itself is that His people continually turned a deaf ear to His Word. His messengers had to keep pleading with Israel: ‘O that today you would hearken to His voice!’ (Ps 97:7).”[vi]

In the same vein, Jesus also warned his contemporaries about their response to his teaching. The parable of the sower exemplifies the manner of how people received the Word of God by the condition of the soil into which the seed fell. “All of us," according to Stott, "are building our life on some foundation. Those who build on rock, whose house will survive the storms of adversity and of judgment, are those who listen to Christ’s teaching and put it into practice.”[vii]

In the remote context of James 1:26-27, the passage, according to Mears, asks us to “keep faith and works in their proper place. Because of all this, James says in effect, ‘the faith that you have is the faith you show.’ Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world (1:27).”[viii]

God still speaks through what He has spoken and listening to His voice through His Word is only the beginning. Jesus said that it is not enough ‘to know these things,’ but that we shall be blessed only if we ‘do them’ (Jn 13:17). Stott concludes, “Perhaps no apostle put this more clearly than James, the Lord’s brother, who wrote: ‘But be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves’ (Jas 1:22). To ‘do’ the truth is to do what it says, to translate its message into action.”[ix] This is the principle of faith: Faith is alive and active, and it responds from a believing heart into an obedient life. True faith that produces genuine fruit. Thus our works, the outcome of our faith in action, reveals the reality of one’s own personal relationship with God.

Behold, I make all things new.

Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump. The new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

Thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the Lord shall name.

Behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. Seeing ... that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness?
